Reporting To: Director, Compliance and Ethics
Position Summary: The Compliance and Ethics team is a function that supports CAPREIT and its employees to comply with laws, regulations and internal policies that are applicable to them and in turn minimize the risk of noncompliance. But more importantly at CAPREIT, we use the term “compliance and ethics” more broadly to describe the process through which we maintain a culture of integrity and assure ourselves and others that we are operating in a manner that aligns with our values and mission as the best place to live, work and invest.
You will be a positive change advocate by suggesting and implementing constant improvements to the overall Compliance and Ethics culture within the Business.
Primary Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Director, Compliance and Ethics you will:
Develop a compliance regulatory program to enable the various business departments to effectively manage the regulatory risks affecting their business lines.
Assess the adequacy of, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day compliance procedures, controls and policies and provide reports on all potential or actual compliance issues ensuring that they are investigated and remediated as appropriate.
Work collaboratively with business line contacts on projects to ensure compliance procedures and controls exist and to ensure all relevant regulations and requirements are incorporated into management policies and processes.
Participate in legislative update reviews and research legislation to provide constructive input into emerging rules and regulations to provide appropriate guidance to the business on potential impacts.
Accountable to identify and provide guidance to the business concerning compliance risks associated with Individual initiatives and projects and to escalate any issues or proposed solutions.
Oversee the Incident Management and Conflict of Interest Program and support business lines as they navigate these Programs.
Provide Compliance updates to Senior Management via quarterly reporting.
Develop partnerships with the lines of business to enhance the compliance and ethics culture.
Proven Ability to:
Identify and assess compliance risks and implications resulting from business changes or regulatory changes.
Demonstrate deep knowledge in risk and control fundamentals.
Manage business and regulatory changes affecting the compliance program with strong planning, communication, and execution.

Build relationships and influence stakeholders.
Exhibit strong attention to detail, great organizational and project management skills, sound judgment, and the ability to prioritize assignments, solve problems, and meet deadlines.

Positive attitude, a desire to learn, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves to get work done, either independently or as part of a team.
Professional Competencies:
3-5 years’ experience in regulatory compliance, risk consulting or advisory, and/or internal audit.
Extensive experience assessing and executing on change management initiatives to ensure changes are adopted.
Experience collecting and analyzing high volumes of data using advanced Excel or other means.
Advanced knowledge of, and experience using, the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
Regulatory experience, including real estate law experience, in a large complex organization is a plus.
French language skills are a plus.
