The climate crisis demands bold action. We need to slash our carbon emissions and remove the excess carbon dioxide that is already heating up our planet.
That’s where Carbon Removal Canada comes in. We are a new climate initiative with a big vision: to make Canada a world leader in scaling carbon removal solutions that can help us reach net-zero emissions and beyond. We are the first group in Canada singularly focused on this mission.
We think Canada has what it takes to be a pioneer in carbon removal. We have the resources, know-how, and the innovation ecosystem to succeed. We also have a responsibility to act as one of the highest per capita emitters of greenhouse gasses.
Our goal at Carbon Removal Canada is to shape leading policies that will accelerate the scale-up of carbon removal technologies in Canada while setting a global standard for deploying them in a responsible manner. We will push for smart investments in science and research that will advance the efficacy and integrity of carbon removal solutions. And we will champion solutions that are socially and environmentally responsible, ensuring that they benefit all Canadians and respect Indigenous rights.
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive movement for carbon removal and intend to elevate voices that are often ignored in climate conversations.
If you share our passion for tackling climate change with cutting-edge solutions that can create jobs and positive social change in Canada and around the world, we would love to hear from you!
Our values
As an early employee of Carbon Removal Canada, you will help shape our values and culture. We are:
The role
As Operations Associate, you will support our growing team that’s working to make Canada a world leader in the rapid and responsible scale-up of carbon removal. This role works directly with our Executive Director and Manager of Strategy & Operations to help manage day-to-day priorities. The Operations Associate will orchestrate and execute our administrative functions, moving seamlessly between calendar management, financial activities, human resource processes, and cross-team support.
This position is remote and can be based anywhere in Canada. The position will report to the Manager of Strategy & Operations.
What you’ll do
Below is a list of key responsibilities currently envisioned for this role. We are a fast-paced organization with evolving priorities, so these responsibilities may change.
What you’ll bring
You’ll really impress us if:
Carbon Removal Canada is committed to diversity, inclusion, and equity in its hiring processes. As such, we welcome applications from members of visible minorities, First Nations, Métis, Inuit, persons with disabilities, persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to help provide a diverse range of perspectives. Even if you don’t meet some of the required qualifications, we encourage you to apply and share how your life experiences and identity, especially if underrepresented in the current climate ecosystem, can contribute to our mission. As long as you feel this is the right role for you, please don’t hesitate to apply.
Location, travel, and hours
This is a remote role, based anywhere in Canada. Applicants must have legal authorization to work in Canada. Our entire team works remotely. We typically work standard hours (9am to 5pm ET), but are much more concerned about results and getting things done effectively than the time of day you work. As a part-time employee, you will work 20 hours per week with potential for this to turn into a full-time position if of interest to you and funding allows.
We will hold in-person team meetings and retreats quarterly to collaborate in person. Additional ad-hoc meetings may be necessary where in-person collaboration is preferable. Senior staff should be ready to travel to events representing the organization as needed. This role anticipates limited travel within Canada except for quarterly team meetings.
What we offer
Carbon Removal Canada is deeply committed to providing competitive compensation and benefits to employees. The starting salary for this part-time position is CA$2,500 per month with opportunities for growth.
