Description
What it’s like working at CBC/Radio-Canada
At CBC/Radio-Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance.
Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever-changing industry? Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.
Your role
You have fresh ideas and technical expertise to create the quality programming Canadians have come to expect from us. As an outside-the-box thinker, you are someone who is always ready to explore new ways of creating content that is as distinctive, intelligent and innovative as the people we look to hire.
Every day, nearly two million Canadians tune into CBC’s radio news programs, while an ever increasing number are streaming, downloading and listening on-demand. Canadians wake up to World Report. They are kept up to date throughout the day and night with The World This Hour. The World at Six gives them context for the stories of the day. And The World This Weekend keeps them informed and entertained through Saturday and Sunday.
We’re looking for Producers who can fill in on all of these programs on an occasional basis. You must know how to write for radio, use sound creatively, and be a strong vetter, as you will be vetting scripts for accuracy, structure, grammar and flow. You have outstanding news judgment, critical thinking and understanding of CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices. You also have a deep understanding and appreciation of the diversity of perspective, opinion, and experience that make up our country – and a desire to reflect it on air.
These roles are Toronto-based, so you would need to be in or close to Toronto to come into the building.
Qualifications
What you bring:
You also must be comfortable editing and mixing with Dalet and know how to navigate MediaCentral.
Minimum 5 years full-time journalism experience.
Excellent journalistic instincts and quick decision-making
A deep appreciation for, and understanding of, audio storytelling
A proven ability to set priorities, plan, organize and meet deadlines; previous experience in a news assignment role a definite asset
A proven ability to adapt and respond quickly and effectively to stories and situations
Clear writing for broadcast and confident script vetting
Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends.
University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of five years of recent, related experience
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
