Your role

All in a Day is the number one drive-home radio program in the nation’s capital. If you’re the right person for this job, you are brimming with new and creative ideas to help keep the show rooted in the hearts and minds of its loyal audience. You’re on top of what’s going on in the city whether it’s the latest from established politicians at city hall or the fastest rising cultural hotshot in Ottawa.
As one of the Associate Producers for All in a Day, you will pitch ideas with community connections and strong news hooks too. You will assist in developing program content including writing, researching, and/or editing as needed. You will prepare scripts that fit the tone of the show, and help organize the participation of interviewees, creative contributors and other participants. You will also, as needed, direct the show from the studio.
Key Tasks:
Contributes ideas for program content; participates in the preparation of program objectives.
Develops and maintains contacts in a range of diverse communities around the region.
Assists in developing program content including writing, researching, field recording and/or editing. Prepares scripts and lines of questioning, briefs the host; ensures adherence to the style and format of the program.
Adheres to the Journalistic Standards and Practices of the CBC.
Edits audio gathered from a variety of sources and ensures that it is packaged in the tone and style of the program.
Writes and posts, as required, a variety of digital content related to the program.
Follow local, provincial, national & international news from a variety of sources.
As required, performs the following tasks:
Selects music, sound effects
Produces program elements.
Develops an ongoing knowledge of and relationship with members of the audience.
Gathers material including video and photos to enhance digital, video platforms as required.
As needed, with training, direct the show from studio
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
University degree or equivalent, with at least one year of related experience.
Demonstrated ability to research and gather information from a variety of sources.
Demonstrated ability to write for radio.
A strong news sense with an awareness of contemporary political, economic, cultural and social issues of importance to this community.
A deep understanding and appreciation of diversity of perspective, opinion and experience and the ability to tell stories from those perspectives.
Demonstrated technical skills such as recording interviews in studio
Knowledge and understanding of the CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
Nimbleness to respond to breaking news.
A valid driver’s license is an asset.
Curiosity, imagination and flexibility.
Solid analytical skills.
An ability to generate original and innovative material.
An ability to work independently as well as with members of the radio production team.
An ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines.
Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada programming.
An understanding of the needs of the Ottawa audience.
A robust contact list that includes diverse communities and individuals across Ottawa.
