As a Principle, Tax, you’ll provide support for company tax initiatives, drive compliance and provision process improvement initiatives, and serve as a peer mentor for finance team members on income tax or payroll tax–related matters. In this role, you will prepare, review, and manage key tax processes, including federal and provincial tax returns, quarterly and annual tax provisions, and cash tax projections. This involves maintaining detailed work plans, communicating internal and external due dates, and motivating team to meet deadlines.
What you will do:
Participate in and manage all facets of the Canadian income tax function.
Identify opportunities to efficiently transfer tax data between financial accounting and tax applications to reduce provision and compliance cycle times
Review components of the quarterly tax provision calculations and assist with preparing components of the financial statement footnote disclosures
Coordinate federal and provincial income tax audits, prepare and review responses to audit inquiries, and communicate audit progression to management
Research tax issues and communicate conclusions and recommendations to management
Prepare and perform initial review of income tax; compliance includes federal and provincial consolidated returns and workpapers, quarterly estimate calculations, and annual extension calculations.
Ensure timely and accurate federal/provincial income tax filings; prepare and review applicable federal income tax return forms, statements, and elections
Prepare and review supporting tax provision work papers, including book-tax differences and tax footnote disclosures
Work with and coordinate various compliance and transaction advisory work with external accounting firms

Must Have
7+ years of relevant tax experience, preferably with progression of increased responsibilities (corporate tax or public accounting environment)
Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
Hold a current CPA designation
Demonstrated understanding of income tax accounting and tax provision in addition to federal and provincial tax issues
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Ability to communicate effectively and in a constructive manner with customers, coworkers, management, and executives
Proven analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills with demonstrated negotiation skills that influence positive outcomes
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities/projects, meet deadlines, facilitate change, and delegate responsibilities
Nice to Have
Master’s degree in taxation
Exposure and experience with global tax laws and guidelines
