Job Summary
CF Industries is currently seeking an Accountant to join our Accounting Department, located at our Medicine Hat Complex.
Reporting to the Site Plant Controller, the accountant plays an essential role in preparing and focusing on account reconciliations and performs financial analyses while ensuring internal controls are adhered to. You will also assist in preparation of management reports; and prepares, complete and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications.
Job Description
What you’ll do:
- Act as part of a team that is responsible for providing financial and operations accounting expertise to support plant accounting functions.
- Prepares and posts monthly journal entries into the SAP system ensuring timely, accurate and efficient recording and analysis of month-end, quarter-end and year-end transactions.
- Reconcile various balance sheet accounts to sub-systems (eg. Fixed assets, inventory, etc.) to minimize risk of undetected errors and potential losses to the company.
- Complete daily and monthly plant statistical production and inventory reports and cost accounting.
- Provide support to the accounts payable process and investigate and resolve problematic issues.
- Maintain the fixed asset ledger ensuring timely closure of capital projects and timely retirement of assets; Work with project managers and engineers to complete capital expenditure analysis and reporting.
- Prepare indirect tax remittances and returns.
- Assist with preparation of the annual operating budget.
- Complete various government statistical surveys.
- Participate in audits as required.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field and a recognized professional accounting designation or working towards completion (CPA).
- Work knowledge of:
- Accounting/financial concepts and principles
- Management accounting principles
- Experience with SAP is preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Windows environment and have an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Applications
- Leadership: Demonstrated knowledge, skills, abilities, and attributes to perform successfully in the key areas of People Leadership, Results Leadership, Thought Leadership & Self Leadership.
- Coaching and training: Ability to empower others through active listening, collaboration, training, education and technical advice.
