Here’s the scoop – Summary

The Corporate Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for assuring that Champion Petfoods quality and food safety standards and policies are aligned with government regulations, customer specifications and Mars Petcare corporate QFS standards, where applicable. The scope of responsibilities includes management of Champion corporate QFS programs, ensure compliance and drive continuous improvements in QFS focus areas.

This role works from Champion’s Edmonton office on a hybrid schedule and requires travel to other Champion Petfoods’ locations as needed.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Development, management, and implementation of Champion Corporate QFS programs in alignment with applicable Mars Petcare QFS policies and guidelines.

  • Perform gap analysis between applicable standards and regulations with current practices and QFS systems. Establish and implement quality and food safety plans to ensure the company meets industry and regulatory compliance.

  • Identify opportunities to implement a world class food safety culture and coordinate activities related to standardize procedures among kitchens.

  • Lead the risk assessment of current operations and identify key areas for improvements in QFS.

  • Implement recall programs, crisis management plans and procedures to meet industry and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure mock testing are conduced to confirm compliance to food safety protocols across the organization related to recall and crisis managements.

  • Collaborate with the Customer Care, Commercial Services and Kitchen QA teams to timely resolve escalated complaints or claims and lead initiatives to reduce the complaints and claims by driving corrective actions and continuous improvement projects.

  • Support new product development with QFS risk assessments and continuous improvement by integrating quality control tools (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) into processes.

  • Support co-manufacturer verification programs with on-going issue resolutions and product verifications.

  • Promote and advocate QFS achievement and performance improvement across the organization.

  • Supervising corporate QFS technical associates and ensure smooth implementation of QFS programs.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What are we looking for?

  • Degree in Food Science or another related field.

  • Minimum 10 years of QA management in a regulated environment required.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of GFSI-based food safety management system implementations and associated standards that include risk management, product testing, capability studies and control plans.

  • Demonstrate ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with a variety of individuals within the department, company and external vendors, and customers alike.

  • Demonstrate ability to work in fast-paced, team-oriented and self-directed entrepreneurial environment.

  • Demonstrate strategic planning with proven ability to communicate a vision and drive results.

  • In-depth knowledge of regulations and practical experience in auditing practices and procedures.

  • Effective presentation and meeting skills within all levels of the organization and with external colleagues and collaborators.

  • Some travel is required.
