As an Information Assistant, you will:
Assist customers in person, over the phone, and online with their information, readers advisory, and room booking needs.
Instruct customers in the use of the Library’s ILS system, online databases, and Internet resources.
Assist customers with specialized resources and tools, such as eBooks, the audiovisual resources, online computer bookings as required.
Assist with public Computer training sessions and provide computer assistance as required.
Prepare for and host children’s, adult and teen programs, including equipment setup as required.
Assist in the creation of posters, booklists, reading guides and other marketing tools as assigned.
Provide tours and orientation sessions as required.
Assist in the maintenance and development of the collection.
Take charge of the library or section in the absence of the Branch or Section Head or designate.
Assist in promoting library materials and services.
Perform other related duties consistent with the classification as required.
Your education and qualifications include:
Undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer-centered service to Children, Teens, and Adults.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability in Reference/Reader’s Advisory work.
Ability to deal effectively with other staff members.
Must possess a good general knowledge of literature and a variety of subject areas, as well as of current affairs and trends.
Knowledge and interest in children’s literature.
Ability to provide programs for pre-school and school- aged children, teens, and adults.
Ability to operate A.V. equipment an asset.

Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position (i.e. Must be able to lift boxes and equipment weighing 20-25 pounds, and set up tables and chairs in meeting rooms)
