Job Summary
The Senior Manager, Media Relations is responsible for acting as the organization’s spokesperson, responding to daily media inquiries as required on local, regional, and national issues. The role works closely with the senior leadership team to develop the strategic communication plans for the organization’s key initiatives, specifically advising on media interaction and engagement. Furthermore, the position creates executive speaking points for inquiries of a more probing nature to ensure protection and promotion of the Company’s reputation in the public domain through effective and strategic media relations.
Main Responsibilities
· Respond to inquiries in order to improve CN’s Media Relations process
· Execute CN’s media strategy in collaboration with regional and executive collaborators
· Support announcements
· Support Senior Executives for interviews and public appearances
· Help handle internal development of CN’s public affairs position and approach to address issues, including working across departments and functions as one team and seeking the appropriate approval
· Help handle issues with local communities (e.g., proximity, equipment, and infrastructure) and communicate CN’s positions to elected officials and residents
· Act as a trusted advisor to CN colleagues on media matters by providing expertise on strategic projects
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions with a regular work week from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work on-call shifts and weekends when necessary. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences. The role requires minimal (up to 20%) locally, mostly within the province.
Requirements
Experience
Media Relations
· Between 7 to 10 years of communications, public relations, politics, or stakeholder engagement experience
o Experience in project management and change management*
*Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset
Education/Certification/Designation
· Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, Law, or equivalent
· Valid Driver’s License

· Very strong writing and presentation skills
