Coast Claims Service Ltd Looking for Controller at Victoria, BC Full Time

This is a permanent position ideally suited to someone with a CPA, end-to-end accounting experience, and interested in a career placement that will develop over time.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Prepare and review budgets, forecasts, and operating results.
• Review and approve payroll, verifying compliance with laws and regulations, including reconciliation of WBC and T4’s
• Responsible for administering all accounts payables in a timely manner.
• Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements, accruals, journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Prepare month-end accounting entries.
• Prepare monthly financial forecasts and compare them to actual results.
• On a monthly basis, prepare required reports and documentation of all aged accounts receivable detail including a determination of the allowance for a doubtful account and/or accounts receivable write-offs.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly sales, use, and occupancy tax filings, including regulatory compliance concerning tax-exempt revenue. Maintain compliance with all local, provincial, and federal laws and regulations including GST, Corp Taxes, etc.
• Ensure the proper and timely billing of all receivables, including individual, group, and credit cards. Follow through and documents all written and verbal collection efforts for all accounts receivable. Respond to all inquiries regarding accounts receivable.
• Provide support for annual reviews including preparation of working papers.
• Continually look and recommend improvements and efficiencies to current accounting practices.
• Take on additional duties as required by the owner/stakeholders.

What you will bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting (an asset)
• CPA or CMA designation (an asset)
• Experience with Xero would be considered an asset; and
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience
• Proficient knowledge of Office 365, especially Word and Excel.
• Experience in growing companies
• Excellent teamwork and ability to work well with various levels of staff and management.
• Analytical skills to review data
• Able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
• Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
