Key Responsibilities
Read and understand site specific instructions prior to directing traffic.
Review the work site on a daily basis and consult with Supervisor to understand work being conducted, and any potential hazards.
Set up, reposition and dismantle traffic control signage.
Protect workers and the public by keeping work space free of traffic, and warning oncoming traffic of potential hazards.
Communicate effectively with other traffic control workers using established signals and radio equipment to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and minimize confusion.
Maintain alertness at all times.
Remove or cover all traffic control signage at end of day or when traffic control is suspended.
Assist truck in accessing and exiting work sites and directing them where to dump loads.
Assist with the set up and maintenance of project signage and barricades, including daily barricade reports.
Assist with measuring work area for calculating quantities.
Receiving, sorting, and filing haul tickets from delivery trucks.
Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
Traffic Control Training Certification considered an asset.
Minimum 1 – 3 years of experience in construction traffic control is required.
Prior experience working within a paving company is a definite asset.
Understanding of traffic control procedures and guidelines.
Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
Must comply with company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Willing to work out of town and in remote locations, as required.
Willing to work overtime, as required.
