College of the North Atlantic’s Happy Valley-Goose Bay Campus is currently seeking applications from qualified individuals to fill short-term staffing requirements that may arise from sick leave, vacation leave, or an increase in operational demands. This position would be casual in nature; hours will vary; and the successful candidate must be available on short notice for day, evening and/or weekend shifts. Candidates must be flexible in order to meet operational needs.

DUTIES: The Food Service Worker I performs standardized food services work for College of the North Atlantic’s Happy Valley-Goose Bay cafeteria. This individual is responsible for ordering, receiving, preparing and serving beverages, snacks and lunch; sanitizing workstations and other food service areas including the kitchen and cafeteria; replenishing stock; cleaning dishes, utensils and other related kitchen equipment (i.e. coffee urn); and operating a computerized cash register. Preparing invoices and compiling quarterly inventory is also a requirement of this position. Other duties as it relates to food service may be required. This position may require periods of kneeling, bending and walking in addition to long periods of standing, which may result in fatigue; lifting and moving of objects; and occasionally using machinery and kitchen equipment. This position is included in the bargaining unit (NAPE, Support Staff).

Screening Criteria

• Graduation from high school
• Relevant food service experience working in a commercial and/or institutional kitchen
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Assessment Criteria

• Knowledge of the food service industry including food safety and sanitation
• Knowledge of a computerized cash register/system
• Customer service skills
• Effective organizational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently
• Effective working relationships

SALARY INFORMATION (Support Staff): CG-20 – $20.03 – $21.74 per hour.
