THE ROLE
Position: First Aid Instructor
Competition Number: CNS 2022-05-13
Location: Commissionaires Nova Scotia Head Office (229 Damascus Road, Bedford NS)
Reports to: Human Resources Manager
Working Hours: Monday-Friday (8:00-4:00pm). Occasional weekends may be required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
As a key member of the Commissionaires Nova Scotia training team, the responsibilities of the First Aid Instructor may include, but are not limited to:
Delivering First Aid certification and recertification to Red Cross standards to both Commissionaires Nova Scotia employees, and external clients
Delivering high quality and professional instruction in accordance with established First Aid/CPR certified programs and course materials
Developing recommendations for curriculum adjustments to benefit clients’ learning, and to ensure efficient yet comprehensive understanding of the subject matter
Marketing to develop present and future clients for First Aid certification or recertification, either at our facilities or at the client site
Fostering new business and external client relationships
Evaluating participants using established testing methodologies
Instructing students through discussions, providing audio-visual presentations and hands-on training
Physically demonstrating various First Aid/CPR techniques
Reporting to appropriate governing bodies regarding outcomes of training
Ensuring the health and safety of self and others in the workplace
Adhering to CNS’ Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, systems, and practices
WHO WE’RE SEEKING
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must:
Be aged 19 or older
Be a Permanent Resident of Canada or Canadian Citizen
Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted
Be able to provide fingerprints and complete a criminal record check
Be eligible to apply for Government of Canada personnel security screening
Hold a valid First Aid certification
Hold a valid First Aid Instructor certification
Hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License, and have access to a reliable vehicle
Be able to communicate effectively in English (the ability to work in both official languages would be considered an asset).
Qualifications and Skills
The selected candidate will be a highly professional and detail driven individual with a strong work ethic and “Can Do” attitude. You will be a team player, working within an active training environment.
Key qualifications and skills to be successful include, but are not limited to:
Excellent oral communication skills, and an inherent comfort with public speaking
A demonstrated history of strong work ethic, professional conduct, and customer-oriented focus
Previous experience delivering instruction independently in a formal setting, using prescribed course materials
Proven experience in developing external client relationships/business development
An ability to deliver instruction/training curriculum to participants from varying backgrounds, and industries (i.e. private sector, students, government)
A track record of punctuality, reliability and accountability
An ability to operate effectively with limited supervision
An ability to ensure quality of learning using informative, engaging and relevant instruction techniques
Familiarity with, and ability to effectively deploy technology (esp. Microsoft Suite)
Excellent customer service skills
