Support Staff Full-time Appendix D Contract Replacement Position (January 2023 – April 30, 2023)

The Logistics & Maintenance Technician performs semi-skilled work in the area of installations, maintenance, repair and general upkeep of buildings, equipment and facilities, including seasonal exterior work at Guelph campus, and supports the Logistics and Facilities Support Services functions at the Doon campus. Completes any other related tasks as directed by a supervisor for required duration at any College building or site. The incumbent is required to follow all Health & Safety Policies and Procedures and complete all training as required.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. This position will be on-site 5 days per week. The position will work Wednesday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Doon Campus and Saturday and Sunday from 5:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., primarily at the Waterloo Campus.

Responsibilities:

• Receives incoming shipments and arranges cost effective shipping
• Unloads and handles internal delivery of items; completing documents as required by standard College procedures
• Interacts with Purchasing, Accounts Payable, college staff, and vendors to solve discrepancies and maintain a high level of customer service and satisfaction
• Collects and distributes mail or shipments to other College buildings and campuses.
• Maintains work areas to ensure maximum use of resources available (i.e. space, equipment)
• Assembles and/or building cupboards, bookcases, shelving and installation
• Installs and repairs locks on doors, cupboards, filing cabinets and desks
• Installs notice boards, whiteboards and signage as directed
• Performs minor painting, adjusting and maintaining door hardware (i.e. tightens striker plates, and adjusts speed of closers, lubricates hinges and locks)
• Completes minor plumbing repairs as directed
• Responds to various maintenance call and work requests
• Completes repairs to drywall, masonry walls and ceilings
• Moves furniture and event materials, up to and including complete assembly of modular furniture and event set ups. Moves equipment and supplies throughout the campus and preforms repairs to the same
• Completes required academic space set up to ensure delivery of programs in all common academic areas following appropriate codes and legislation
• Completes set up and tears down functions for special events
• Repairs various furniture equipment in common academic areas
• Operates & maintains grass cutting and snow removal equipment
• Keeps walkways clear of snow and salted as required in preparation for campus traffic
• Inspects and documents inspections and repairs to equipment including fire extinguishers as required
• Supports weed control programs within guidelines, prunes trees and shrubs
• Repairs minor asphalt and concrete cracks and holes
• Cleans interior and exterior of fleet vehicles, as well as ensuring vehicles are fuelled and ready to be used by team members
• Provides temporary back-up or assistance and support to various Facilities functions including but not limited to convocation, shipping and receiving, snow removal, grounds maintenance, equipment repairs, exterior and interior signs, assist with emergencies (within Facility Management), assist trades/contractors, etc.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of two years practical experience in the maintenance and repair of building contents and equipment
• Proficient reading, writing and arithmetic
• Specialized technical skills would be an asset in some areas. i.e. locksmithing
• Good organizational skills
• Ability to deal effectively with people
• Best lock system workshop
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with clients
• Maintain a good standing in a valid full G Class Ontario Driver’s License, personal transportation an asset
• Overtime hours required, including before/after regular workday (including weekends), based on weather conditions and/or special events
• Valid Ontario driver’s license and continuation of clean driving record to be eligible for Conestoga Insured Driver status
