Overview

As an Elevate & Expand: Coaching for Excellence tutor, you will work alongside Black students from Grade 6 – 12 to use strengths to address needs, increase academic success, and support learning with an equity mindset in an format. You will be provided with a tutoring orientation and guidance by our Program Coordinator to implement Culturally Relevant and Responsive practices in tutoring sessions. You will be working 1:1 with secondary or elementary Black students to support their learning, assignments, answer subject-specific questions and other related tasks based on student needs.

Tutoring sessions will occur virtually during weekday evenings with the opportunity for in-person group tutoring on Saturday morning through DBEN’s Afrocentric Program.

Responsibilities

• Participate in professional development, Family Orientations and other such duties as directed by the Program Coordinator
• Perform student diagnostic assessment and keep a record of student learning/progress
• Assist Black students with their academic success in an online format
• Provide one hour sessions up to 3 hours per week
• Define next steps for students based on their progress
• Communicate student progress with parent/guardian/caregiver

Qualifications

• Ontario Certified Teacher with current OCT#
• Experience with e-learning or delivery of distance learning
• Proficiency in Google Suite (Jamboard, Google classroom), D2L, etc.
• Able to assist students in preferred subject area with preference to English, French, Mathematics, and Science

• Pay is $47 per hour (up to 3 hours per week)
