Driftpile Cree Nation (DCN) is a proud and culturally strong First Nation located between the towns of Slave Lake from the west, and High Prairie from the east, approximately 340 km northwest of Edmonton. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Human Resources Generalist (HRG), under the direction of the Human Resources Officer (HRO), is primarily responsible for the administrative, recruitment, and transactional functions of human resources department. The HRG will be responsible for overseeing personnel management, including wage increases, promotions, and assist with disciplinary actions in compliance with company policies. This position will also assist in determining staffing requirements and lead the recruitment process with the supervision of the HRO.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee personnel management, including wage increases, promotions, and assist with administering progressive disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures.
- Assist in determining staffing requirements and lead the recruitment process.
- Implement human resources requirements in conjunction with other departmental managers.
- Determine areas of improvement for employees, providing additional training as needed.
- Ensure employees have clear goals and are aware of role expectations.
- Ensure that all employees compliance with company policies, procedures, health and safety regulations, and ethical standards.
- Assist with employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, health and safety concerns, work refusals, and investigations.
- Participate in site and workplace inspections.
- Develop employee training programs, ensuring that all applicable compliance requirements and best practices are met.
- Provide leadership and coaching to managers and employees on key workplace matters such as performance management, difficult conversations, employee relations, and employee development.
- Administer the benefit and pension plan.
- Foster and maintain an approachable human resources department.
- Collaborate with other members on the human resources department to complete all tasks and projects in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree or diploma in business administration, human resources management, or a related field required
- Minimum of 3 years working in a Human Resources position with extensive knowledge of employment law
- Demonstrated ability to manage HR core processes such as talent management, succession planning, and employee relations.
- Able to make sound business decisions and evidence-based recommendations to senior management.
- Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills.
- Sound leadership, staff management, and teambuilding skills.
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
- Able to interpret and implement personnel-related legislation.
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of labour laws.
- Ability to understand and Cree would be considered an asset.
- Must provide clear Vulnerable Sectors Checks and proof that a Child Welfare Information Systems check has been initiated.
