THE OPPORTUNITY
Are you looking to live and work in the Okanagan or Lower Mainland BC while doing what you love at a dynamic and innovative consulting firm? We need an Intermediate/Senior Forest Resource Analyst to join our team at our Kelowna or Vancouver locations. For the right applicant with experience, there is the possibility of working remotely.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide forestry business knowledge and technical analysis that offers cost-effective, innovative, and meaningful solutions;
Translate complex analysis results into practical knowledge that supports informed decision-making;
Manage small teams to support the delivery of strategic planning and landscape analysis projects;
Apply scientific, technical, and professional skills to support project teams in areas such as, but not limited to, ecosystem analysis, wildfire management, silviculture and forest planning, environmental and forest enhancement, forest carbon accounting, and timberland valuation;
Building and nurturing lasting client relationships including understanding client needs, maintaining open communication, and providing exceptional service to ensure client satisfaction and retention;
Produce clear written and verbal communications to document project inputs and explain project results; and
Carry out other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada;
Post-secondary education in Forestry, Environmental Science, Biology or related natural resource discipline;
Registration or eligibility for registration as a Registered Professional Forester in British Columbia, Alberta, or other jurisdictions in Canada or the US where we are doing projects.
Minimum eight years of related experience;
Experience setting up and running forest estate models (e.g., Patchworks, Remsoft Spatial Planning Suite);
Experience using GIS tools (QGIS, ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro) for spatial analysis.
Excellent oral and written communication skills to deliver complex material to varied audiences;
Strong data management and analysis skills, including data manipulation skills using databases, geodatabases, and scripting languages (e.g., Python, R, PostgreSQL);
Experience with common forest management, and growth and yield software (e.g., TIPSY, VDYP, FVS, FPS);
Strong analytical and detail-oriented skills are critical, along with exceptional problem-solving skills;
The ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively, manage deadlines, and have exceptional organization skills;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and
Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
Forestland valuation experience;
Experience working with forest carbon offset protocols and/or forest carbon inventory standards;
Background setting up and managing IT infrastructure to support natural resource data management and analysis;
Familiarity with US and other international forest management approaches and analysis tools; and
Willingness to take a leadership role on the team, mentoring junior team members and eventually leading work in specific lines of business
