This position can be based out of any of the following ESW office locations: Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria, Grande Prairie or Fort St John.
Primary Focus
The HR Generalist serves as an impartial link between ESW and its co-workers, and works to promote co-worker safety, job satisfaction, positive relationships, and career development. This role is responsible to lead recruitment, administration and review of benefits and compensation, co-worker welcome and on-boarding, development of guidelines and policies, training, performance reviews, and safety administration.
The successful candidate must be client centric (internal or external) and must have excellent client service skills
Job Description
You will have ownership of initiatives, requiring you to work independently, managing competing priorities in a high-performing environment with a high degree of self-direction.
Your broad range of coordination, generalist, advisory and HR operations responsibilities will require you to leverage your understanding of the Canadian employment landscape and your experience across a variety of HR disciplines including operations, recruitment, talent development, learning and development, and employee relations.
Develop, review and update HR guidelines, policies, forms, and templates.
Develop relationships with co-workers, helping with their needs, and generally supporting job satisfaction at ESW. Advise or assist co-workers with questions or concerns regarding company policies, compensation, benefits, their role, or life at ESW.
Responsible to lead the recruitment process, supporting the hiring leader in finalizing job description, advertising, interviews, and so on.
Responsible for the HR On-boarding and Welcome process. Work with the new co-worker’s Leader to ensure the co-worker has access to all the tools and information that they need to be successful. Ensure all co-worker contracts and related documents are signed and up to date, including safety requirements.
Work with VP Operations regarding development and review of benefits plans and compensation/total rewards programs.
Administration of co-worker benefits and communicate with benefit providers, including annual co-worker information updates.
Assist with organization and facilitation of staff meetings and social events.
Assist other departments such as administration, purchasing, payroll, etc. as required.
Manage the administration of the training program.
Work with Leaders to administer co-worker Performance Reviews.
Provide advise in managing co-worker relations issues such as discipline, performance, workplace conflict, etc. and escalate as appropriate.
Seek continuous improvement opportunities and leverage technology to realize efficiencies in daily tasks and across the business
Maintain accurate and comprehensive personnel records within the HRIS system.
Technical guidance and direction on the operation and maintenance of the human resources data systems (HRIS).
Administer and support all HRIS system technologies and enhancements that improve HR operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Prepare, maintain, and update co-worker data on HRIS
Support of the ESW Safety Program and COR Certification. This would include but not limited to:
Provide day-to-day administration, communication, and assistance to leaders and Co-workers regarding the ESW safety program
Annual COR audits
Safety administration
Joint Health and Safety Committee Member administrator, Incident, and Investigations.
Development of the ESW safety policy in compliance with current legislation
COVID-19 health and Safety Administration
Maintenance of external Safety applications on behalf of clients (ISN & Comply-Works)
Safety reporting, KPIs
Safety Training for all co-worker
Other duties as required
Key Education and Experience
Knowledge and experience in all areas of Human Resources professional practice, demonstrated by at least 2 years of human resources experience, and 2 years or more years of business experience.
Knowledge and experience regarding safety programs administration, including COR certification would be an asset
Human resources data systems (HRIS) experience is an asset.
Strong client service skills. Ability to develop rapport with co-workers and Leaders, and to develop an understanding of their needs,
Problem solving skills-able to balance the goals and needs of the co-worker with those of the company and its leaders in helping develop possible options and solutions in various situations
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Working towards an Undergraduate degree in human resources, business, Safety, or a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation would be an asset.
Skills Required
Ability to remain calm in stressful circumstances.
Good organizational skills, with the ability to work efficiently under pressure, and ability to manage time and priorities.
Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently, as well as work well as part of a remote team.
Good ethical standing (bond-able) as the Generalist Manager is expected to work independently, with direction from their Leader. A high proficiency level with software tools like MS Office Suite.
