What You’ll be Responsible For:
As the Director, People & Culture, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing the delivery of a best practices HR framework aligned with the organization’s long-term strategy and the strategic pillar of Talent & Culture. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Strategy & Business Development, you will oversee the development and implementation of human resources policies, programs and services, delivering an HR strategy to guide the organization in performance, management, recruitment, retention, and engagement. Having a hands-on approach will be crucial while delivering HR services and empowering leaders to proactively manage their teams. This role wears several hats: trusted advisor, coach and a people leader to the Events East team while overseeing the day-to-day direction and delivery of HR administration.

These pillars define your approach nurturing and cultivating a high-performance HR team and positive culture. As part of designing the HR strategy, you will ensure labor relations strategies are in compliance with relevant collective agreements. You will also proactively seek trends and recommendations for areas of improvement. This includes timely and consistent HR advice and assistance to management in interpreting HR policies and procedures. You naturally build relationships with department leaders ensuring HR standards and procedures are delivered consistently. Your leadership will extend to the Events East’s EDI framework, emphasizing on HR practices. Under the HR strategy, you will act as a management liaison to the HR & Nominating Committee of the Board, providing advice on workplace and employment strategies.
Under HR administration and management, you will ensure all employee management practices are in compliance with related labour laws and public sector considerations. HR policies, standards and procedures will all need to be streamlined. This includes any HR resources such as the employee handbook, job descriptions, job classifications and compensation. OH&S programs must meet all legislative requirements at all times. As a respected, strategic, big picture thinker, you will suggest improvements for the current recruitment processes in place. Your onboarding and training program will help support retention and growth. You will develop team members to achieve their career goals, fostering a high performance, highly engaged team. Working in the events industry will require some flexibility for evening and weekend work to provide HR support when needed.
Candidate Background:
As the ideal candidate, you have a Bachelor’s degree or College certification in Human Resources or a related field with at least seven years of progressive experience in managing multiple HR functions. You have a proven track record designing and implementing action-oriented HR strategies and programs. Lastly, colleagues would describe you as poised, level-headed and pragmatic. Having your CPHR and CHRL designation is preferred but not a requirement. You are a clear and concise communicator, influencer and negotiator, able to build and maintain partnerships with managers, leaders and stakeholders.
