Opportunity:

The Health and Wellness Consultant position is our frontline expert in supporting the community stakeholders and wellness of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students in Alberta school communities. This person will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with First Nations and Métis communities in Treaty 7 Territory and coordinating projects that support the health and learning outcomes of children and youth. This position reports to the Assistant Director, plays a key role in listening, understanding, and advancing projects focussed on health and wellbeing. Implementation of community development projects, contributes to the collective work of the organization, and collaborates with a broad base of partners.

This individual must be willing and able to travel frequently throughout Alberta and motivated to work in a fast-paced, exciting and fun environment. The location of this position is Calgary South (remote work conditions will be considered), requiring consistent connections to EAS offices in Edmonton and Calgary, building supportive in-person relationships with remote and rural First Nations and Métis communities in southern and central Alberta, and continuous collaboration with multiple team members and communities.

This position requires innovative leadership, strong interpersonal skills, experience working in a school setting, knowledge of physical literacy and an understanding of wellness-related work (health promotion).

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain meaningful partnerships with provincial and First Nations school authorities, municipalities and allied health and education partners, to provide support for existing initiatives and work with communities to address their unique needs.
• Coordinate and deliver a portfolio of wellness-related initiatives:
• Work alongside indigenous communities in listening and supporting wellbeing;
• Assist in fund development for new projects;
• Recruit participant sites;
• Develop and implement work plans;
• Monitor progress and manage timelines;
• Maintain budgets;
• Conduct program and process evaluation;
• Complete formal reports;
• Mobilize knowledge and share learnings.
• Collaborate within and across EAS teams and provincially across sectors to promote school based wellness initiatives
• Support overall work of the organization through activities such as events, learning opportunities, communication and media, and resource development

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Education, Health Promotion or related field, or equivalent community based experience
• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a school, community or health promotion setting
• Experience leading a project from start to finish is an asset
• Understand diverse indigenous cultural traditions, practice, and protocols and ability to facilitate the inclusion of diverse cultural protocols and policies into work activities, especially in working with youth, Elders and Knowledge Keepers
• Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license
