Position Summary: Fairview Seniors Community is actively seeking a friendly, self-motivated individual to join our team as Human Resources Student (Temporary Full time). This position is pivotal to enhancing human resource applications across our community. The Human Resources Student embraces collaboration and innovation as a means through which to develop, standardize, coordinate, implement and evaluate human resource practices for long-term care and retirement residents and supporting departments. This summer position is responsible for supporting the effective daily operation of the organization’s Human Resources programs and initiatives.

Reports to: Executive Director

Assets and Qualifications:

• Be between ages 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
• Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and must intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year. Preference will be given to those students studying in the HR field is preferred

• Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and;

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations

• Competent with Google applications, MS Office applications and can easily pick up new software programs and applications

• Demonstrated organizational and planning skills
• Attention to detail, energetic and can work under minimal supervision
• Strong communication skills and ability to manage situations where conflict may arise
• Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple demands, competing priorities and projects, multi-task and work to tight deadlines
• Excellent customer service, interpersonal, facilitation, conflict management and research skills in order to work with all levels within the organization
• Currently enrolled in college/university; specialization in Human Resources is preferred
• Good problem solving and analytical skills, with experience in reconciling accounts and reports
• Able to deal with confidential information with a high degree of diplomacy Current Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check, TB skin test and COVID-19 vaccination are required

Job Posting: Human Resources Summer Student

Position Specific Responsibilities: include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist with program development, and review;
• Assist with scheduling employees, and new hires for training, and orientation
• Support the recruitment, training and education of staff and volunteers across the community
• Review staff and volunteer records and trends
• Review and revise orientation packages and processes for new employees
• Work with hiring managers to fill all recruitment needs, including activities such as screening candidates, drafting/reviewing interview questions and, participating in or conducting interviews
• Develop and maintain job descriptions and job evaluation process
• Embrace the Home’s Kindness Initiative in all aspects of operations.
• Understand and follow all health and safety policies and procedures, working safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, other team members, residents, tenants and their families.
• Maintains new and historical HR records; ensures data gathering, management, integrity, and quality
• Assist with the application policies processes and practices to ensure equity, diversity and inclusion across the organization and teams
• Support the implementation of policy and practice to support psychological health and safety in the workplace

Hours of Work: Temporary Part Time. 9 weeks, 30 hours per week. May include some evening shifts.

Job Type: Temporary, Contract

Rate of Pay: $15.63 per hour.
