Fleet Telematics is a relatively new and growing category of software and cloud services that allows companies with small and large fleets of vehicles to know where all of their assets are at all times, driver behavior, vehicle condition and any needed or scheduled maintenance. These systems are driven directly from data collected from the vehicles in near real time. It is a very complex category that helps companies use data to reduce costs, improve vehicle availability, and improve driver effectiveness driving down direct costs, insurance costs, and improving vehicle utilization efficiency.
THE ROLE:
The Manager of Software Engineering for Ford Pro Intelligence, will be responsible for partnering with product management to prioritize all feature request, planning and executing deliverables, and collaboratively growing the FPI business. Fleet Telematics is a $1B category and the transition to electric vehicles provides Ford a unique opportunity to gain significant market share. To accomplish our business growth goals this role will manage a multi-discipline engineering team, help with planning exercises for the engineering team, support engineers to follow sound development practices and achieve high quality for all features released.
YOUR IMPACT:
As a multi-discipline engineering manager and business owner, you will:
Prioritize feature work with Product Management
Partner with product management to drive revenue and share growth
Manage overall service OpEx and CapEx budgets constantly working to reduce COGS.
Help implement and manage a robust cloud-based architecture with high geo-redundant multi-cloud reliability
Help implement A/B testing strategy along with controlled feature rollout and rollback
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field. (Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained. If the degree was obtained from a school outside of Canada, an Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency is also required.)
8+ years of software industry experience.
5+ years of experience managing engineers and developing a learning culture.
5+ years of experience managing software development processes and teams.
5+ years of experience as a technical leader delivering cloud based solutions
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Outside the Box Thinking – You will be presented with problems to solve where you will need to work around gaps in the target platform
Ability to Navigate through Ambiguity – We often have to dig in to learn all of the details of a potential solution
Experience with multiple tech stacks including cloud environments
Demonstrated success creating evolutionary architectures with appropriate operational characteristics: scale, reliability, security, performance, etc.
Demonstrated experience guiding and influencing solutions for products
Comprehensive knowledge of industry trends, and upcoming technologies.
Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to influence the enterprise
Demonstrated success building large scale complex data driven SaaS solutions.
Familiar with one or more of the major cloud IaaS solutions such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Strong executive communications skills and large team management skills.
Demonstrated ability to grow EICs (Early In Career) technical team members.
