Reports To: Community Programs Manager

Location: Parry Sound, Ontario with option for virtual work days

Wage: Level 4 $55,000/annum ($30.20/hr) starting salary & commensurate with experience

Terms: Permanent position. Full- or part-time, flexible start date, open to negotiation

The Education & Engagement Manager is a senior position responsible for managing the education and outreach programming for Georgian Bay Biosphere (GBB) as an organization, leading on the strategic planning for youth engagement, developing partnerships and resources, and participating in the co-delivery of youth programs and public engagement events and activities with other staff.

We are looking for candidates who can facilitate learning opportunities outside of the classroom, who have effective teaching and engagement styles, and are creative thinkers for managing education

programming throughout the Georgian Bay Biosphere region so that programs have maximum impact on learners of all ages. A successful candidate will connect with youth in a variety of settings, implementing principles of outdoor, experiential, and transformative learning. This candidate will collaborate with Indigenous partners and support the delivery of land-based learning. 

This dynamic position works with other Biosphere program staff to design and deliver learning and engagement activities for audiences including K-12 students, kids in the summer, community groups, and other stakeholders. These activities include outdoor lesson plans, workshops, public events, presentations, training, guided hikes, and more, focused on the topics of biodiversity, climate literacy, Anishinaabek ways of knowing, and sustainable living. Through this spectrum of activities, the candidate will also assist the organization to move closer to achieving our strategic goals and objectives as they relate to education and learning. 

Summary of Responsibilities 

1. Strategize, design and oversee the planning, promotion and delivery of youth outreach for GBB.
2. Manage the program by collaborating with GBB’s program teams in biodiversity, climate, culture, and community to enhance engagement and learning across the region.
3. Develop and deliver outdoor, land-based, hands-on education programs and initiatives.
4. Support development and delivery of outreach activities and events for a variety of audiences.
5. Develop and implement tools to track and evaluate the impact of outreach/engagement activities and behavioural change (i.e. tools and metrics to evaluate programs).
6. Co-supervise the tasks and activities of volunteers and/or seasonal/part time staff. 
7. Other tasks as assigned.

• Ability to supervise volunteers, interns, and summer students.
• Capable administrator of grants, budgets, reports, evaluations, and other systems.
• Ability to identify and align resources/funds for program design and implementation.
• Networking skills and effective personal interaction to maintain strong partnerships.

PROGRAM DELIVERY & COMMUNICATION 

• Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
• Proven track record in project design, management, and evaluating impact. 
• Passion for working with children and youth and/or teaching a variety of audiences.
• Excellent teamwork skills to both delegate tasks and take leadership. 
• Ability to work outdoors (ie. outdoor classrooms, gardening, environmental stewardship).
• Passion for the outdoors, respectful of all cultures, inclusive of diversity.
• Understand learning styles, child development, behaviour management.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE 

• A combination of post-secondary education/experience in a relevant field (e.g. education, communications, health, outdoor rec, Indigenous studies, environmental science).
• Knowledge of regional environment issues and demonstrate environmental commitment.
• Awareness of UNESCO biospheres, GBB priorities and work with partners/communities.
• Familiarity with Indigenous partnerships, Anishinaabek culture and programs.
• Experience delivering education programs, community presentations, nature interpretation. 
• Proficiency with MS Office, social media, web, graphic design software. 

CERTIFICATION 

• Class G driver’s license and access to a vehicle (or reliable form of transportation).
• Valid Emergency First Aid + CPR an asset.
• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening an asset.
