Global Rights Defenders (GRD) is a Non-Government Organization (NGO) that advocates for refugee and human rights worldwide. We focus on policy development, research, advocacy, and highlighting the stories of the voices untold or unheard. Our headquarters are in Vancouver, Canada.

Position Description
Reporting directly to the CEO, your role will be to lead communication campaigns across social media platforms, fundraising activities, and organization growth. This position requires an experienced communications expert, have strong writing capabilities, the ability to work independently, and a willingness to explore new and innovative subject matters as it relates to GRD’s mission. Cross-collaboration between departments is a key component to this role.
About the Position:
- Be located in Canada (remote or in person, but must be within Canada)
- 5-7 hours a week
- Voluntary (No compensation will be offered at this time)
Qualifications For This Role Include
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related field such as communications, marketing, digital media, journalism, public relations, political science, writing, English, AND 2 years or more related work experience in progressively more responsible communications positions.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Be interested in global affairs, international development, humanitarian aid, and related.
- Experience in growing social media campaigns
- Proficient researcher
- Experience in partner engagement and media or public relations.
- Experience in communications strategy planning, development and implementation.
- Experience in professional writing/communications product development, (e.g.social media posts, engagement and communication plans, new releases, backgrounders; web content etc.).
- Experience leading communications teams.
Services
- Identify, cultivate, and grow social media presence online
- Create digital media content, such as posts or infographics to help grow followers and community engagement
- Create digital media content that pushes the strategic mission of GRD forward and is in line with GRD mission and values
- Work with the CEO to develop periodic and annual social media campaigns, ensuring the delivery, monitoring and reporting of the plan is in alignment with organizational strategic goals
- Lead the development, monitoring and growth of social media streams to generate followers and influence within the sphere for mission-related purposes
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to lead key pipeline initiatives and inspire development professionals’
- Demonstrated record in personally identifying, cultivating, and securing formidable online presence
- Experience working on communications for campaign fundraising and working in executive and entrepreneurial leadership roles is an asset
- Strong written and oral communication skills to communicate with a diverse community
- Strategic thinker and proven analytical skills
- Strong knowledge of databases, creating or overseeing creation reports
- Strong attention to detail; superb organizational and problem-solving skills
- Resourceful and organized; able to manage competing priorities, complex situations and deadlines
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft suites, Canva is an asset
