If so, this position, Logistics Assistant, may be an ideal seasonal position for you.
The Logistics Assistant is a direct report to the Logistics Coordinator in the Wildfire Forest area and is responsible for supporting the Logistics section. The Logistics section supports all wildfire needs as directed by the Logistics Coordinator and/or the Duty Officer. Some duties may include; Coordination of people, hiring equipment, ground transport, rentals, fuel, communications, accommodations, meals and commissary.
Other roles and responsibilities are:
Maintain various wildfire databases, which involves the continual update of data pertinent to wildfire operations.
Ensure tracking systems are current for staffing levels, import/export personnel, days of rest/annual leave, work schedules, work assignments, equipment assignments, and contractor/operator day counts.
Order fuel for aircraft, heavy equipment and facilities in compliance with provincial contracts and standing offers.
Assemble wildfire crews as required
Continual interaction with the Alberta Wildfire Coordination Centre(AWCC) for operational manpower/equipment requirements and responding to requests from AWCC for resources using the Resource Request Module in the Fire Information Resource System(FIRES)
Acquire information for out of province exports; liaise between AWCC and the exporting resources
Hire heavy equipment for operational requirements, in accordance with the standard operating procedures as required
Arrange transportation and accommodations for import/export resources in compliance with the Standing Offer procedures
Keep warehouse and Camp Supervisor staff informed of current and forecasted logistics and supply needs
Receive, review, and distribute inventory request orders
Hire provincial contractors (security, medic, incident camps) as required
Interact and support Incident Management Teams (IMT) during wildfire activities within the forest area.
Ensure the check-in/check-out system for manpower/equipment is managed.
Coordinate the transportation of the Wildfire Management trailers and rental of the supporting equipment, including a generator, as required operationally
Order meals as per Standard Operating Procedures for personnel in the field, office or incident and reconcile expenditures as required
May be responsible for purchases and reconciliation of procurement cards within the department financial guidelines.
May be required to track and coordinate area vehicles
Ensure all communications and data entry is completed accurately with close attention to detail.
Be available for export to other Forest Areas and/or out of province.
Qualifications
Minimum Recruitment Standards:
Eighteen (18) years of age
High school diploma and one (1) year of related experience
Directly related experience or education considered on a one-for-one year basis.
Education & Experience Required:
Experience in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel
Highly organized individual with excellent keyboard, computer, multi-tasking and communication skills
Valid Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR
Valid Class 5 Drivers License
Valid Defensive Driving Certificate
Current Driver’s Abstract – A Driver’s Abstract, showing a record of seven (7) demerits or less, must be obtained. Your driver’s abstract, must be dated within 30 days and presented to management prior to your commencement.
Completion of a Par-Q and/ or fitness test is required for this position.
Education & Experience Preferred:
Experience using Wildfire Management software: Fire Information Resource System (FIRES) and Dispatch
Knowledge of heavy equipment, and equipment capabilities used in wildfire operations
Knowledge of manpower positions used in wildfire operations
Knowledge of the Wildfire Management program, business rules, policies and standard operating procedures

$21.41 – $26.05 per hour

This role is temporary and may end before or after September 30, 2022.
Hours of work- 7.25 hours per day or 36.25 per week. May have to work on the weekends if required.
