The Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for the development and expansion of opportunities for agriculture and related industries. The Crops and Irrigation Branch is a multi disciplinary team dedicated to the expansion and sustainability of the crop and irrigation industry through the provision of engineering, agronomic and economic services.
The Crops and Irrigation Branch is seeking a professional, results-oriented individual for the position of Irrigation Technologist. Reporting to Manager, Engineering Services, this position provides technical support for the delivery of irrigation development programs and services throughout Saskatchewan. This position is responsible to provide surveying and drafting technical support for the province’s irrigation programs. This includes assisting with the planning, design, construction, and inspection of new and/or rehabilitated irrigation projects. The successful candidate will have the ability to collect and manipulate data utilizing engineering software programs.
Our candidate of choice will possess:
knowledge of conventional, electronic and GPS surveying; air-photo interpretation;
drafting experience using programs such as AutoCAD and ArcMap and other computer programs such as Water CAD;
knowledge of irrigation methods and equipment; and
knowledge of construction methods and materials.
Typically, the knowledge, skills, and experience required for this position would have been obtained through a diploma in Civil, Water Resources or Geomatics and Surveying Engineering Technology from a recognized technical institute with industry experience, or a suitable combination of education and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for membership with the Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians.
