Hatch, a full-service consultancy, is currently seeking a highly motivatedProject Engineer, Transit, to join the Linear Infrastructure & Facilities group in Calgary, AB.
The Project Engineer Transit will assist the Lead Civil Engineer in working with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to ensure the delivery of a high-quality design for our clients while adhering to technical requirements, schedule and commercial objectives.
Our projects involve at-grade, elevated and underground railways and stations, maintenance facilities and related infrastructure such as roads, buried utilities, earthworks and structures. The core responsibilities of the role includes working with designers and under the supervision of senior engineers to progress detailed design of civil elements on our projects.
This role requires civil experience gained through on the job experience, as well as high emotional quotient, objective thinking, problem solving skills and empathetic leadership characteristics. The most suitable candidate will have a background in civil design such as transit, roads, utilities, grading, and be comfortable with, and demonstrate experience in multidisciplinary design coordination. With exponential growth in the Transit Business Unit within Hatch, this is an exciting opportunity for an applicant looking to progress their career as they gain experience into future roles as a Professional Engineer leading work within Hatch.
Responsibilities:

Maintain technical prominence within the industry as it relates to civil design, and within Hatch.

Developing knowledge of different areas of civil engineering though on the job learning, courses and self-guided study.

Working directly with senior staff to support the development of drawings, reports and specifications.

Working with a team to successfully execute civil and transit projects, including working closely with and providing guidance to designers and drafters.

Extract engineering information from CAD drawings, prepare material takeoffs and estimates.

Managing, coordinating and interfacing with project team members including clients, designers, technical specialists, sub-consultants and other project stakeholders.

Active participation in internal project team meetings to understand project requirements, schedule, deliverables, technical issues, etc.

Ensure that design deliverables meet client requirements.

Field work including site inspections.

Other general duties as required for successful and timely project execution.
Requirements:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) and 4+ years of related work experience.

Eligible for registration, with Canadian provincial engineering regulatory bodies as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).

Preference will be given for candidates with experience with civil engineering including transit, roads, utilities and rail.

Must be self-motivated able to work independently under guidance and support of senior staff.

Must be able to articulate direction to junior designers and drafters and manage progress.

Must have excellent communication skills and interpersonal soft skills.

Must have good analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Must demonstrate the agility to quickly shift focus between tasks in order to deliver on multiple project priorities.

Experience working on City of Calgary / City of Edmonton, Alberta Transportation, BC Ministry of Transportation, Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, or Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation projects is an asset.

Proficiency in utilizing OpenRoads Design, MicroStation, Civil 3D and other software packages typically associated with engineering is an asset.
