Heritage Park is Canada’s largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region’s past.

Job Overview:

Under the guidance of the Education Manager, the Education Program Specialist plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing diverse educational programs tailored to both adults and youth.

Responsibilities:

Program Development and Delivery

• Leads the day-to-day coordination of educational, youth, and summer learning programs, as well as adult education workshops
• Collaborates with other team members to develop new program initiatives and evaluates existing programs in alignment with departmental priorities and audience requirements
• Coordinates logistics and prepares materials and venues for programs, ensuring seamless coordination with other Park departments
• Provides administrative support, including managing bookings, registrations, payments, and responding to program inquiries while also actively participating in program delivery
• Extends a warm welcome to groups and individual participants, engaging with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure a positive experience
• Assists in the recruitment of seasonal/casual staff, including Lead Hands
• Oversees the comprehensive training, scheduling, and attentive supervision of seasonal/casual staff, guaranteeing the seamless execution of programs with efficiency
• Supervising and monitoring the workflow of seasonal/casual staff, including delegating duties and providing feedback
• Provides ongoing mentoring and coaching to seasonal/casual staff, fostering their professional growth and ensuring high standards of performance in program delivery
• Liaises with the Marketing team to promote and market educational programs to attract participants and increase awareness of program offerings at the Park
• Perform other duties as required

Required Qualifications:

• Post-Secondary Education in Education, History or a related field is required
• Minimum 2 years’ experience teaching in a museum or classroom environment as well as experiential learning experience is required
• Minimum of 1 year’s prior experience as a project/team lead or supervisor is required
• A valid Standard First Aid and CPR certification is an asset
• Ability to think creatively and develop innovative educational programs that appeal to diverse audiences is essential
• Strong research skills, including the ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize information from various sources
• Demonstrated interest and knowledge of the history of Western Canada and Alberta
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpretation skills, are necessary for effectively communicating educational concepts and objectives to various audiences
• Adaptability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills in a client-faced setting
• All successful candidates (over the age of 18) will be required to go through a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.
