For the 2nd + 3rd year Bachelor of Textile & Fashion of the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) we are looking for a
Tutor Textile Design (0.2 FTE)
What will you do?
One of the core talents to be developed during our 4-year bachelor program is the personal artistic handwriting of each student. The Textile Design course continuously trains the student to develop materials based on a personal fascination that can be given shape and a place in a contemporary world. How can tactility, shape and color relate physically to a society that is subject to many and rapid changes and in which students take up a position.
The relationship with the fashion industry is evident but not self-evident. A broader perspective on Textiles is necessary to develop an authentic and relevant vision that can bring innovation and meaning.
students observe, discover and capture shape, proportions and expressions. Combined with a wide range of techniques and use of materials, the student acquires a wide range of technical skills and an understanding of how to translate these into a three-dimensional or a unique two-dimensional expression.
Spread over four years various subjects continuously develop: shape, relationship to the human body, physical expression, materials, colours, composition, techniques etc. Through experimentation and reflection, goal is to develop a unique style and method of working in close connection to the other courses offered that inspires, supports and communicates the student’s personal fascination and vision.
Your profile
You are a designer who is active in the international professional field with broad knowledge of techniques and material development. You can relate to the 3-D aspect of textile design and you have an affinity with product design.
The department wants to focus on developing new perspectives in the field of textile design, in which craft and material are the starting points to stimulate a current and innovative personal vision with the students. You can motivate students and help students on their way with your broad knowledge and network.
We find ourselves in a rapidly changing society and we want our students to play a conscious role in it. You can develop and supervise a program based on socially involved theoretical issues and concepts, which enables a student to initiate and implement a design process.
You are familiar with art education and have the sensitivity to recognize and guide the development of someone’s authentic talent. You possess great communication skills in English conversations.
About us
The Royal Academy of Art (KABK) forms with the Royal Conservatoire (KC) the University of the Arts, The Hague. We offer HBO bachelor and master education, as well as preparatory courses. There is an intensive collaboration with Leiden University: students can take electives on both sides, there is a PhD program, and a double degree program will soon start. The KABK is located in the center of The Hague.
What do we offer?
You will typically teach one day per week for 34 weeks per year. A flexible arrangement of teaching hours might be necessary occasionally. We expect the contract to start on September 1, 2022. The contract is for one year. It can be renewed. The salary amounts to a maximum of € 5,332.48 gross per month for a full-time appointment under the Collective Agreement for Higher Professional Education (CAO hbo). Furthermore, we offer a holiday allowance of 8%, a fixed end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, holiday leave, and provide good study- and development opportunities.
