Job Description
Arcadis | IBI is part of the OneT+ JV, the Technical Advisory Consultancy for Scarborough Subway Extension and Yonge Subway Extension. The position of Construction Engineer is specific to the Yonge Subway Extension Project. Reporting to the Construction Lead, the successful candidate will not only have strong construction experience, an eye for detail and strong sense of urgency but also have very strong written and verbal communication skills. You will also offer specific experience in working in complex construction projects (P3, Infrastructure, Transit, etc.) involving multiple disciplines across architecture, systems, construction management, project management and engineering. The work will involve the review of constructability and staging drawings, construction schedules, cost estimates, shop drawings and materials and construction method statements. Past experience working on underground and/or surface rapid transit projects (subway, LRT) is a definite asset. Note that this role will require a significant amount of time dedicated to working in design environment, including procurement phase and flexibility to transition into construction phase which requires a significant amount of time dedicated to the project site(s) in Toronto and York Region.
Most of the Things You’ll Work On:
- Reports to the Project Construction Lead
- Assists the Construction Lead in day to day activities
- Liaise and coordinate with Contracting Authority and various design disciplines to resolve design & construction issues
- Liaise and coordinate with team discipline leads on constructability issues
- Support narrative and development of Reference Concept Design for station design
- Support development of Project Agreement (PA) Technical for Station, Rails and Systems (SRS) construction
- Review of Concept design with construction perspective before each submission, identify gaps in the design and provide recommendations and next step
- Review of Concept design and develop strategies for construction and constructability of all structures in all YNSE work packages
- Assist with developing construction phasing, staging drawings, construction site analysis, and construction timeline for preferred option for major components of the project
- Review of constructability and staging drawings
- Review of construction schedule and cost estimate
- Attend meetings with CA and Stakeholders as needed and when required

Once Construction Begins:
- Identify and report any potential issues, delays, risks related to construction
- Review of construction method statements
- Develop monthly progress and photo reports
- Coordinate Engineering and commercial issues with the construction team
- Follow up with Contractors on resolving construction complaints and issues
- Frequent visits to the project sites in Scarborough and Yonge subway extensions to monitor progress
Qualifications
You’ll Need To Have:
- Minimum University Degree in Civil or Construction Engineering
- Professional Registration with PEO as a P.Eng
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in heavy construction projects
- MUST HAVE experience with complex construction projects involving P3, Infrastructure and/or underground LRT and subway projects. Experience with Metrolinx projects is desired
- MUST HAVE strong communication, and negotiation skills with an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; able to independently write reports and correspondence
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong construction/project management and coordination skills.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint), Projectwise and Acrobat/Bluebeam (redlines/comments)
- MUST be able to work in design environment and on site and travel to project site offices in North York, Vaughan, Markham and Richmond Hill from time to time (as necessary)
