Job Description
IBI Group is hiring an Intermediate Energy Modeller to join our Buildings group to support various new construction and existing building renewals projects. This position is available in any of our US and Canada offices. Remote work from locations in North America will be considered for a strong candidate.
Most of the things you will work on:
Performing energy modelling on new construction and major renovations.
Updating energy simulations as the design progresses and evolves.
Provide subject matter expertise to inform the development of in-house energy modelling tools and processes;
Working as part of a building’s design team, you’ll be key to providing input on energy performance measures and making sound recommendations for cost efficiencies and improvements
Providing guidance on energy modelling to other project teams as well as being an active member of the integrated design team yourself;
Generate educational material on energy modelling to promote it within the firm
Reviewing design documents (plans, specifications, shop drawings) as they are developed to ensure that the intended energy efficiency measures are being fully incorporated into the designs
Qualifications
You will need to have:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or Applied Science.
Minimum 7 years of experience conducting building energy modelling for various building types, including residential, commercial, institutional, industrial
Registered Professional Engineer in the jurisdiction you are applying for.
Proficiency with energy simulation software such as Energy Plus, eQuest, IES-VE, HAP, TRNSYS
In depth knowledge of the following relevant: ASHRAE standards: 90.1, 209, 55, 62.1.
Professional experience working with the energy codes in the major jurisdictions of the country you are based in. If based in Canada, at minimum need experience with the Ontario SB-10, Toronto Green Standard (and its associated energy modelling guidelines), NECB, British Columbia Step Code, and Vancouver Higher Buildings Policy. If based in the US, at minimum need experience with Tittle 24
Prior experience with Building Sciences, Lighting, Electrical Systems and Envelope
Previous design, construction or project management experience on new construction or major renovation projects with important sustainability and energy efficiency objects such as LEED, Zero Carbon Building Standard or Passive House an asset
Experience with Daylight Modeling and/or Thermal Comfort Modeling as well as a fundamental understanding of mechanical systems and HVAC equipment
Understanding and knowledge of Architectural, Mechanical / Electrical Drawings
Proficient with the MS Office suite of products and working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp
Experience with Rhinoceros 3D and visual scripting tools such as Grasshopper and Dynamo and related environmental analysis plugins such as Ladybug Tools is considered a plus
Experience with simple box modelling and using tools & databases such as CBEC, NEUD, Energy Star, ZeroTool, or Edge Tool is considered an asset.
Certifications such as LEED AP, ASHRAE BEMP, CEM, WELL AP, CPHD are an asset

We are currently in a work from home model during COVID-19 but when we do return to the office we’re located at 1285 W Pender St, Vancouver.
