The opportunity

KPMG’s ESG Practice provides a full range of advisory and assurance services to clients in both the corporate and public sectors including Oil & Gas, Financial Services, Mining, Utilities, Chemicals and more. Core services include: sustainability and Environmental, Social and Governance [ESG] strategy and risk, climate change and decarbonization, GHG emissions inventory, ESG implementation support, sustainable finance, and reporting and assurance.

Our ESG practice in Montreal is seeking a motivated and high performing Senior Consultant to support the delivery of our ESG services as part of a rapidly growing and dynamic team.

What you will do

Your work will be highly versatile and depending on your interests/strengths may cover areas including:

• Support clients with the development of ESG frameworks and strategies consistent with evolving expectations.
• Support clients draft and enhance their ESG reporting consistent with evolving expectations, and support with the implementation of supporting systems, processes and controls for effective reporting.
• Support clients in their net zero commitments and decarbonization efforts.
• Support clients in identifying climate risks and opportunities and implementing TCFD-aligned climate strategies and disclosures.
• Support clients with quantifying their corporate / portfolio emissions.
• Support assurance teams in the delivery of sustainability-related assurance engagements , including sustainability report assurance and regulatory verifications (e.g. GHG verifications, renewable fuels verification) .
• Support financial services clients with the integration of ESG in investment and lending decision, and underwriting.
• C onduct ESG due diligence across various types of deals and asset classes.
• Support client relationships and business development initiatives such as leading proposals, identifying new target clients, and develop “go to market” strategies
• Actively mentor and coach team members to their highest potential
• Maintain an educational program to continually develop skills

What you bring to the role

• A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in Engineering, Finance, ESG or Sustainability in consulting or industry.
• Strong familiarity with key ESG concepts and frameworks
• Strong communication skills, verbal and in writing, and ability to translate complex messages and recommendations into concise proposals, reports and presentations
• Ability to work in a fast-paced professional environment
• The ability to work on multiple or complex projects simultaneously
• Excellent client service skills with an aptitude to understand the clients’ business and maintain strong client relationships
• Dedication and motivation to achieve high standards of client service in the performance of duties
• Strong numerical and analytical skills combined with sound commercial acumen.
• Leading by example and being an authentic and active advocate of responsible business.
• Have clear points of view on major sustainability megatrends.

Desirable Skills

• A Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Sustainability or Business.
• A Master’s degree (MBA, MSc. or MEng.) is preferred, but not mandatory for candidates with substantial relevant work experience . Additional professional designations like CFA would be a plus.
• The following are considered strong assets:
• Experience with sustainability management, reporting and assurance frameworks (e.g. SASB, GRI, UN SDGs, TCFD, ISAE 3000)
• Experience in GHG accounting, assessing climate change related risks and opportunities, and/or developing decarbonization strategies
• Strong familiarity with sustainable finance and approaches of ESG integration in lending, underwriting and/or investing, ideally from industry experience
• Experience with Python, PowerBI, excel VBA, and others
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in both French and English
