Overview:
The Supply Chain Manager (SCM) is to build an effective team that devises and implements logistics, sourcing, inventory management and customer service strategies for the supply of aggregates. The SCM is responsible for planning and executing process optimization and cost saving efforts pertaining to Greater Toronto Area (GTA) logistics business, and supports the development, execution, and measurement of initiatives to support the long term Eastern Canada Aggregates Logistics strategy. The SCM will leverage emerging digital trends to create new offerings for an improved customer delivery experience and develops relationships with internal stakeholder and haulers as a means to drive performance, communicate transparently and to influence change.
Responsibilities:
Safety:
Responsible for ensuring all hired transporters comply with safety standards set out by LafargeHolcim.
Ensures hired transporters remain compliant to local and national safety programs.
Ensures all aspects of his/her role are executed in a safe manner.
Obeys safety guidelines when on construction sites and Lafarge operations.
Coordinates and trains haulers on our safety procedures.
Manages Safe Trucking Program and ensures safety compliance and targets zero incidents.
Management of the Safe Trucker Program for the Market Area, including overseeing the rollout of the annual Orientation and administration of information collection and record maintenance.
Responsible for communication of Safety concerns, toolboxes, and actionable items to hired haulers.
Financial Growth:
Deliver continuous gross margin and operating profit improvements.
Prepare annual budgets for logistics operations and report on in-year actual performance against the logistics financial ambition.
Accountability and management of the financial process will be measured through the tracking & forecasting of Gross Profit on Delivery, Shipping costs, logistics, administrative costs and other costs related to the supply chain team.
Sourcing, Production Planning & Inventory Control:
The person is accountable for the development, communication, implementation and tracking of inventory and sourcing strategy.
Supports the preparing of inventory projection analysis monthly to communicate product shortfalls and surpluses with the local management team.
Formulates logistic and sourcing strategies, minimize inventory working capital and maximize customer service through KPI target setting and tracking.
Brokers and manages aggregate resale agreements with 3rd party producers to support product portfolio.
Performance Optimization and Analysis:
Manage the Customer Service & Logistics team to establish competitive and fair freight rates for zone maps, large projects, and annual supply contracts.
Coordinates the effective implementation and use of the ECAN TMS system, reports on performance KPIs, and recommends optimization opportunities based on data analysis.
Transportation Management:
Establish regular contact with major carriers building win-win relationships to provide the best transportation services at or below market rates keeping in mind a sustainable trucking cost structure.
Leverage relationships to gather market intelligence, learn about operating cost structures and influence the market.
Supply Chain Coordination and Administration:
Support commercial requirements of the business by actively building strategic partnerships to support the objectives of the supply organization within the region both internally and externally.
Ensures that Standard Operating Procedures are up to date and implemented across the business unit.
Relationship with Others:
Reports to the General Manager – Central Aggregates
Works closely with the ECAN Performance & Logistics Manager, Operations Manager, Commercial Manager, Territory Managers, Quality Coordinators, Marketing and Operation Analysts and Plant Managers.
Specific Accountabilities:
Strategy and Process:
Supports the implementation of the GTA Logistics strategy in collaboration with the ECAN Commercial & Logistics Performance Manager, aligning expectations on the implementation of initiatives, tools, and operational efficiency targets
Champions the GTA Logistics core fleet initiative, models target scale and profitability ambitions, defines and tracks key utilization and profitability variables and metrics.
Leads the development of digital tools and bidding platforms aiming for cost and margin optimization by route, project and segment, including the optimization and evolution of our TMS systems.
Continuous enhancement and improvement of digital and analytical tools.
Understands, analyzes, and consolidates market data and trends, anticipates economic drivers, growth opportunities and synergies
Supports markets in zone definition and target margins
Manages staff to assist with customer communication, credit & collections, pricing implementation, order processing, pro-active order follow-up, freight and delivery needs, system support and quotation preparation.

Hauler File (Insurance, License, CVOR, Whitesheet, GVW, etc.) & Performance Tracking
Coordinates the effective implementation and use of the ECAN TMS system
Consolidates, analyzes and prepares periodic reports on market logistics performance KPI including, among others, site turnaround times, delivered %, average cost per ton, profitability by market, zones and customer segment, margin mapping by customer, backhaul %, etc.
Provides optimization recommendations related among others to site turnaround times, price negotiation opportunities, route optimization
Tracks and validates data integrity and reliability by market and identifies and resolve issues across markets
Dimensions:
7 M tones of delivered aggregate sales
$40M of freight expenses
+$20M in product inventory
8 direct reports (4 hourly / 4 salary)
Qualifications:
Education & Work Experience:
Post secondary degree/diploma; Construction industry and/or logistics experience
