Position Details:

LBC IT Solutions, Inc. is looking for an Azure/MS SQL Database Administrator. The DBA will oversee the creation and maintenance of database environments for application testing, pre-Production verification, and production environments. You will provide technical support for data clean up operations, data access, performance tuning, and database recovery. The Database Administrator will provide DBA services to a portfolio of applications owned by LBC IT Solutions, Inc. and as a service provider to Canadian enterprise clients.

What Will You Do?:

• Lead in the support of database systems, deployment, and usage standards.
• Lead application development and support teams in optimal use of database systems through creation and communication of standards and walkthrough of critical application components.
• Ensure that databases are optimally designed, so that applications meet their defined SLAs, reuse of existing database structures is maximized, and operational costs are minimized.
• Provide leadership in ensuring all database and environmental changes are appropriately tested and implemented in such a manner that there is no impact to systems and clients.
• Provide strong technical knowledge and business subject matter expertise across a wide range of database technologies, with primary focus on SQL server.
• Provide database related technical support for development and production environment, which on occasion may include required level of 24×7 on call support.
• Define, develop and meet various SLAs for multiple database platforms used in the company.
• Improve and optimize database administration and management with coding and automation with a focus on the performance, high availability, reliability, and reduce TOIL using SRE practices.
• Build self-service and self-managing capabilities of our database as a service infrastructure.

Required Experience:

• 5+ years of proven working experience in Microsoft SQL Server technology and current on SQL Server releases (i.e. SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019).
• In-depth technical knowledge of database servers and operating systems.
• Experienced with data manipulation languages, data definition languages, physical database design, and application performance analysis & tuning.
• Experience in providing L3/L4 support in troubleshooting SQL server performance related issues.
• Knowledge to analyze performance issue, identify tuning opportunities, implement improvements and advise developers on SQL Server.
• Intermediate knowledge maintaining multiple production and non-production SQL server instances.
• Experience automating routine DBA tasks using scripts or CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent communications skills working with a team with broad skillsets.
• An aptitude for learning and sharing new skills.

Nice to Have:

• Azure or GCP Cloud Environment experience.
• Some knowledge of containerization.
• Managing SQL server on containers (i.e. Docker, Kubernetes, etc).
• Experience with NoSQL Databases platforms such as CosmosDB.
• Knowledge of DevOps pipeline (i.e. utilizing git and JIRA).
• Coaching/mentoring skills.
• Attention to client focus and client service.
• Azure Dev Ops, General CI CD, Team Lead Experience, Project Management Experience.

COVID-19 Considerations:
This position would be entirely online during the pandemic and eventually be located in our Toronto office.
