JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Catering & Events is direct oversight of attainment of assigned team catering/food and beverage sales goals tied to the overall performance of the hotel. The individual will be responsible for effectively managing the catering and meeting events team. Responsible for servicing clients/groups, managing room blocks, maintaining the contracted food and beverage minimum and all details of groups from time of booking until the completion of the event(s). This role will work in conjunction with the Director of Sales & Marketing and Hotel leadership to achieve the hotel’s revenue, meeting planner satisfaction scores, and food and beverage catering sales goals. Assist in building revenue through up-selling and rebooking. Provide leadership within the Sales & Marketing department.

• Effectively manages assigned meeting planner satisfaction scores, revenue goals, as well as food and beverage catering sales goals.
• Manager department to attract, retain and motivate the associates; hire, train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, conduct performance and salary reviews, resolve problems, provide open communication vehicles, discipline and terminate, as appropriate.
• Proactively conduct solicitation calls, conduct site tours, and entertain clients.
• Monitor and evaluate trends within your market segment.
• Approach all encounters with guests and associates in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner.
• Devise and implement strategies to enhance the service provided to catering and meeting customers.
• Liaise between the group and the hotel after the contract has been signed to coordinate and manage all conference planning aspects.
• Conduct meetings with internal and external customers including pre-event and post event meetings.
• Ensure client satisfaction while meeting is on site and utilize selling skills for group return.
• Assist in up selling programs to maximize food and beverage revenue, guestroom and meeting room revenue, and all other sources of hotel revenue.
• Work with the Chef to create menus to suit client needs, budget and expectations.
• Work with the Banquet Manager to ensure all client needs are met.
• Compile and analyze monthly catering forecast.
• Provide direction and guidance to any Sales & Marketing associate as required.
• Conduct Site Inspections and pre-planning sites with clients.
• Coordinate familiarization tours and site inspection details with Sales & Marketing associates, food and beverage and culinary team to ensure creativity and exceptional delivery.
• Maintain an active involvement in the Sales & Marketing department-wide meetings and activities.
• Adheres to Marriott and Aimbridge Hospitality’s established regulations, company standards, catering/meeting standards and related metrics.
• Develop a full working knowledge of the operations and policies of the hotel and applicable departments.
• Demonstrates ability to deliver banquet event orders and group resumes on a timely basis (10 days) and ensure accuracy.
• Ensure changes are communicated timely to impacted departments/operations leaders.
• May assist in implementing and/or participating in special promotions relating to direct sales segments i.e. sales blitzes, etc.
• Attend daily/weekly/monthly meetings and any other functions required by management.
• Maintain professional working relationship and promote open lines of communication relationships to achieve initiatives with respective marketing partner(s) and other internal departments (i.e. Second Wave, Aimbridge Digital, or Branded field marketing), as applicable.
• Perform any other duties as requested by the General Manager or Director of Sales & Marketing.

• Promote safety awareness to associates and demonstrate that safe job performance is the number one priority.
• Ensure compliance with WRS’s Occupational Health and Safety Program and the Regulation of Work Safe BC.
