Memorial University’s Office of Development is seeking a fundraising professional to be responsible for meeting the annual major gift fundraising goals of two academic units – the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Music. The candidate will be responsible for implementing fundraising strategies and initiatives consistent with the University’s and units’ strategic priorities and objectives including unit-based fundraising campaigns. This also includes maintaining a portfolio of active donors and prospective donors, with an emphasis on timely and strategic actions, in order to maximize philanthropic revenue.
DUTIES
Reporting jointly to the Senior Development Officer (Central) and, in the academic units, to the respective Deans, you will formulate and implement major gift strategies compatible with a diverse fundraising environment. Responsibilities include: designing, implementing, managing, and evaluating strategies and tactics to solicit specific major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations; developing and executing the full scope of relationship management related activities, including prospect discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship of prospects; creating a sustainable major gifts program with clear moves management objectives; documenting, tracking, and reporting on activities to appropriate internal stakeholders; managing fundraising administration and processes; preparing written materials to support fundraising including case statements, tailored proposals, progress reports, and prospect correspondence; demonstrating maturity, judgement, and diplomacy in dealing with donors, senior level leaders, and administrative personnel; continually acting as an advocate and ambassador for the University and the academic units including representing them externally and at University events held locally, nationally, and internationally; serving as the primary liaison between donors, volunteers, and administrators to maximize private funding; developing an annual plan of goals, metrics, and strategic objectives in collaboration with the Deans and staff in Development; providing status reports to each respective academic unit; carrying out special projects; and performing other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Experience (3-5 years) in fundraising (preferably in the education, arts, or not-for-profit sector) or in business development, relationship management, sales, and/or sponsorship; graduation from a four-year college or university; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Persuasive communication, diplomacy, and negotiation skills that allow success both within the campus environment and in the field; ability to build and maintain productive donor relationships; manage multiple fundraising projects from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines; and ability to work both independently and within a team are required. The successful candidate should have exemplary judgement and maturity as well as exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and be goal-focused. Demonstrated numeracy is an asset as is knowledge of Memorial University, the respective academic units, and their unique mandate and responsibilities to the province. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends; must be willing and able to travel locally, regionally, and nationally.
SALARY $59,460 – $81,079 per annum (Management and Professional)
