Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry Looking for LOGISTICS TECHNICIAN at Fort Frances, ON Full Time

The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry, Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES) program is looking for a dynamic and well organized individual to provide technical expertise, service and support to ensure logistical preparedness at Fire management facilities and to provide quality customer service to internal and external clients. What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• provide group leadership, technical advice and guidance to field and support staff (e.g. fire crews, warehouse staff, administrative staff, etc.)
• provide input at daily planning sessions regarding logistical preparedness and demobilization
• review resource requirements (equipment, parts, supplies, etc.) and ensure the appropriate level of resources are available for field staff
• compile data and prepare a variety of reports outlining the costs, effectiveness and options for the delivery of the fire program

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirements:

• You must have a valid class ‘G’ driver’s licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver’s licence upon being hired.
• You have the ability to obtain a restricted radio telephone operator’s certificate.
• You have the ability to obtain Standard First Aid certification.
• You have the ability to successfully complete the following training courses: WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Bear Awareness, Inventory Management Information Systems, Logistics Chief, Logistics Boss and Powered Vessel training.

Group leadership and coordination skills:

• You have experience providing leadership and direction to staff in escalated/emergency situations.
• You can prioritize tasks and activities and ensure the timely deployment of resources.
• You have organization and coordination skills to manage all aspects of the fire program: operations planning, transportation of staff and equipment, procurement of resources, etc.

Communication skills:

• You have communication skills to conduct briefings and deliver training sessions.
• You have written communication and computer skills to prepare a variety of reports and correspondence.
• You have interpersonal skills to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Knowledge of fire management:

• You have knowledge of fire management principles and practices.
• You have knowledge of fire management systems.

Computer proficiency:

• You are proficient using common office productivity software such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, email and internet applications.
• You have the ability to quickly learn and understand ministry specific applications.
