We are now seeking applicants to lead all aspects of our annual Middle School (G6-9) theatre production.

Position Summary: *
The successful candidate will lead all aspects of our Middle School theatre production, from selecting the play, casting, running rehearsals, and working with our technical director to design the set, lighting, and costumes. They will be responsible for leading bi-weekly rehearsals (Wednesday afternoons 1:30-4:00, and Fridays from 1:30 – 4:00) from Sept.-Dec. 2022, and two additional weekly rehearsal times in Jan. – Feb. 2023 (days/times tbd), leading up to performances in late Feb./early March.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: *

• Lead the Middle School Theatre Production elective and direct an engaging, inclusive, production that builds students’ skills and motivation
• Collaborate closely with our technical director and various arts teachers
• Model a deep understanding of and passion for theatre and performance
• Connect with and inspire students to outstanding levels of achievement in theatre

• Design, prepare and deliver learning activities that facilitate authentic engagement

• Identify and select instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs

• Use relevant technology to enhance instruction and learning

Required Qualifications:

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or in possession of a valid work visa)

• Able to pass a criminal background check (vulnerable sector search)

• Demonstrated successful experience leading theatrical productions with adolescents

Preferred Experience and Qualities:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Theatre or Theatre Education
• BC Teaching Certification
• Knowledge and understanding of International Baccalaureate programmes and philosophy

• Successful experience teaching Performing Arts in a school or educational setting

• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

• Strong organisational, communication, administrative and interpersonal skills
