Summary:
NAVBLUE, an Airbus Company, is currently seeking a Database Administrator to join our growing team. The last 6 years have brought a digital transformation to the aviation industry with incredible amounts of data becoming accessible. For example, each aircraft is now capable of uploading data from 50,000 sensors after every flight, ADS-B receivers around the world collect and distribute aircraft position reports in real-time every second for 100,000 flights every day, continuously updated world-wide weather, and the list goes on. As you can imagine, this volume of data requires rigor and solid foundations at data storage and processing. At NAVBLUE, we are committed to improving flight operations, saving airlines money, and reducing aviation’s carbon footprint.
We are looking for a Database Administrator to help us organize, troubleshoot and evolve our databases to improve our products and optimize flight operations.
Help us identify opportunities for database optimization, preparing to migrate to cloud based solutions, and ensuring efficiency and effectiveness on the data exchanges across all applications are important functions of this role. We need your experience to provide valuable input on best practices for operations on RDBMS, propose new data models and help us mitigate and troubleshoot our current installations. In addition, as a subsidiary of Airbus, we exchange and collaborate with Airbus’ data experts on various projects. This is an exciting opportunity to revolutionize the aviation industry.
As part of the Data Management & Sciences Chapter, you will support all aspects of database administration including configuration, relational data designs, estimates, automation and support of solutions and their deployment process. You’ll find yourself supporting several services and products which work together to provide flight operation solutions for NAVBLUE customers.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical direction and oversight for current product databases, particularly on the following platforms:
- Review current and future requirements on Relational and Non Relational DBMS infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot current production configurations, including clustered servers and data replication across data centers.
- Building database systems of high availability and quality depending on each end user’s specialized role.
- Designing and implementing databases in accordance with our product’s needs.
- Defining users and enabling data distribution to the right user, in appropriate formats and in a timely manner.
- Use high-speed transaction recovery and back-up techniques.
- Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses.
- Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users.
- Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards.
- Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity.
- Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required.
- Mentor other internal team members on database fundamentals.
- Participate in on-call rotations.
Required Skills/Experience:
- Proven working experience as a Database Administrator on any of the following platforms:
- Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications.
- Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity and SQL.
- Familiarity with database design, documentation and coding.
- Previous experience with DBA case tools (frontend/backend) and third party tools.
- Familiarity with programming languages API.
- Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically.
- At least 3 or more years of database work experience.
- Must work effectively with others in a team environment.
- Fluent in English. French is an asset.
- Knowledge of the Aviation Industry is a big asset.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent, Certifications as DBA on any of the mentioned RDBMS platforms.
- Proficiency on PL-SQL or equivalent query language.
