Position Summary
The Admissions Officer reports to the Assistant Registrar and provides team leadership as well as working as a member of the Admission Team in processing applications for admissions. The Admissions Officer is responsible for determining best practices for ensuring that potential students are advised appropriately in a timely manner on admissions requirements and options, transfer and articulation, and other related issues.
The Admissions Officer liaises, communicates, and builds working relationships among the Admissions Team, Support Staff, Faculty, Department Chairs, Deans and Exempt Administrators in order to provide services to students, through all stages of the admissions process.
The Admissions Officer may be required to visit schools, funding agencies, North Island College Information sessions, and community events to make presentations to groups and individuals in conjunction with other employees.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Plans, develops, and implements Admission packages for various programs.
2. Works with the Assistant Registrar and Admissions team to develop, implement, and maintain best practices in terms of admissions procedures and provides expert admissions knowledge and training to other members of the Admissions team.
3. Determines admissibility for new and returning students applying for re-admission, and transferring students based on knowledge of admissions processes at NIC and at other post-secondary systems across Canada.
4. Develop and maintain relationships with students, prospective students, parents, guidance counselors and teachers to enable students to reach their academic and career goals.
5. Presents information and advising sessions to various sized audiences and describes North Island College’s programs and services related to admissions, registration, financial aid, and educations/training opportunities.
6. Responds and communicates online, via telephone, and in-person providing accurate admissions information’ ensures that other admissions staff also provide accurate admissions information.
7. Liaises and provides clear communication with internal clients in North Island College Divisions, Departments, Faculty, Staff and Students as well as liaison and communication with external contacts and representatives from other post secondary institutions, funding and sponsoring agencies, external organizations, and the general public.
8. Working in a team with the Assistant Registrar, Student Recruitment Officer, Community and College Relations, and Marketing, the Admissions Advisor will create and distribute a wide range of resources and promotional materials designed for the recruitment and retention of targeted groups.
9. Responds to inquiries from students, internal groups, and external agencies and prepares reports and proposals.
10. Review and evaluate transcripts and determine eligibility of entrance requirements.
11. Provide educational and financial aid advising information to potential applicants, applicants, and students, where appropriate.
12. Works with the Assistant Registrar as required planning, developing, and implementing operating goals and objectives.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Registrar.
Required Education & Experience
1. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree required.
2. Minimum of (3) three years of experience directly related to admissions in a post secondary education organization.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
1. Ability to work with the minimum of supervision and demonstrated commitment and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment combined with the ability to develop and implement customer service standards and procedures.
2. Ability to effectively use the Internet for detailed searches.
3. Advance level of proficiency and experience in using a large database system.
4. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures related to College policy.
5. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
6. Working experience with Datatel/Colleague Student Systems is required.
7. Knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues.
8. Excellent inter-personal communication skills including the ability to make presentations; to speak in public specifically to high school students, parents, to network and build relationships.
9. Excellent organizations, time management, interpersonal, customer service and project management skills, combined with the desire to work closely with internal clients and external community groups.
10. Excellent written communication skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail.
11. Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked team environment.
12. Intermediate level of proficiency in the MS Office suite of programs and a good working knowledge of databases combined with the ability to process computer data and to format and generate reports.
