Position Summary
Working under the direction of the Associate Director, Student Life, the Student Life Organizer is responsible for the planning, coordination and evaluation of Student Life events and initiatives (including Orientation) that impact the retention and engagement of NIC College students. The position works closely with students, NISU and members of the Campus Life Advisory team to promote engagement and create a vibrant campus atmosphere and sense of community.
Additional responsibilities include hiring and training Campus Life Assistants and other student employees, scheduling, budget monitoring and marketing/communication for Student Life events.
The Student Life Organizer is aware of the Mission and Values of North Island College, incorporating and practicing the values in everything they do.

Duties & Responsibilities
Orientation and Transition
1. Works with the Associate Director, Student Life and the Orientation Committee to plan and support orientation;
2. Supports orientation events campus-wide (with operational leadership on the CV and CR campuses).
Student Life
Under the direction of the Associate Director, Student Life:
1. Plans an annual schedule of virtual and/or in-person events/campaigns to engage, connect and inform NIC students across all campuses. This may include evening/weekend activities and special events;
2. Manages operating budgets for student life activities and special events;
3. Collects and tracks data on student involvement in events to monitor trends and popular appeal;
4. Supports the development and or delivery of priority training programs on behalf of Student Affairs on matters of significance to the College community (e.g. student mental health, substance use, violence awareness and prevention, etc.);
5. Hires student staff including providing orientation and training;
6. Initiates and processes appropriate personnel, payroll, accounting and purchasing documentation;
7. Liaises with Facilities, marketing and external partners to schedule Student Life activities and programs;
8. Coordinates the weekly Student Newsletter;
9. Manages and updates Student Life webpages and other documents as required;
10. Produces brochures, posters and media guides;
11. Works closely with the North Island Union to ensure a positive atmosphere that contributes to the growth of student clubs and student life;
12. Initiates, implements and coordinates activities, programs and services that enhance student leadership development;
13. Participates in other projects as assigned by the Associate Director, Student Life.
Performs other related duties including but not limited to:
1. Assists the Associate Director, Student Life as requested;
2. Provides vacation/leave coverage for Student Life and Outreach Liaison as required;
3. Represents the department at internal and external meetings as requested.
Required Education & Experience
1. Two-year College diploma in a related field (event planning) Bachelor’s degree preferred
2. Minimum of three years’ related experience including experience working with students from diverse backgrounds including indigenous and international students.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
1. Ability to work both independently and within a team is required.
2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; the successful candidate will be required to present orientation sessions and facilitate/host other events for groups of students and employees as well as write reports.
3. Strong planning, organizational and time management skills, excellent communication and interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. including the ability to handle multiple assignments and adapt to changing demands
4. Experience using Colleague Student System (or other Student Information System) is an asset.
5. Sound computer skills with experience using a variety of office software, including word processing, database entry, desktop publishing and email
6. This position may be required to work outside of traditional work hours including weekends and evenings.
