Please note that the incentives are available to successful applicants residing outside the Eastern Zone of the Nova Scotia Health and willing to relocate. Candidates who are currently employed within the Eastern zone must have capacity to accept temporary assignments that do not result in operational disruptions or result in the payment of overtime for regular shift assignments.
Please Note: This incentive does not apply to internal employees who are already located at the site where the vacancy exists.
Successful candidates of the locum pilot project will be eligible to receive a Completion Bonus of $1000 after completion of 162.5 hours worked. There is a one (1) month minimum with commitment determined upon hire. Successful candidates will also be eligible to receive reimbursement for mileage or airfare as appropriate, and reimbursement for meals on a per diem basis as well as for reasonable accommodation.
Responsibilities
The Locum Program is focused on specific assignments opportunities for short term periods to address high staffing needs in the Eastern Zone.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Registered Nurse is a health professional who, through the nursing process and therapeutic relationship, assists clients and families to attain/maintain an optimal health status. The Staff Nurse is also responsible for the overall planning and delivery of nursing care. (S)he practices within the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia, CRNNS Standards of Nursing Practice for Registered Nurses and the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics, providing guidance and leadership to peers and other staff; working in a collaborative relationship with colleagues, unit staff, students and members of various related health disciplines.
You may be required to work at various rural facilities within the Eastern Zone which could include Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital, Eastern Memorial Hospital, Guysborough Memorial Hospital, Strait Richmond Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital.
Qualifications
Based on the facility and area of need the qualifications will vary.
Qualifications for Medical/Surgical Areas:
Registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia or eligible for registration.
CPR Certification or BCLS –C.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
One (1) to three (3) years medical/surgical experience
Experience working in a rural setting considered an asset
Qualifications for Critical Care Areas:
Registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia or eligible for registration.
CPR Certification or BCLS –C.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and/or ENPC (Emergency Nurses Pediatric Course)
TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
ENP (Emergency Nurse Program) or CCNP (Critical Care Nursing Program)
If above not available at least five (5) years medical/surgical experience with evidence of good assessment skills.
Experience working in a rural setting considered an asset

Willingness to do ambulance transports.
Good attendance and work record; attendance records may be reviewed
Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
to provide a criminal record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) to People Services before starting employment and assume any associated costs as a condition of employment
Mental/Physical Demands
frequent physical demands include extensive standing and walking, bending, lifting, pulling and pushing, transferring and transporting patients / clients and equipment. Must be able to function in a potential high stress environment of a health care organization at either the primary, secondary or tertiary level.

Salary Information
$35.21 – $44.48 hourly
