Niagara Regional Broadband Network (NRBN) is the Region’s leading service provider of high-performance data, voice, and networking solutions. The Accounting Specialist (the “Specialist’) is responsible for preparing and sending monthly residential customer invoices and statements, as well as assisting in the preparation of monthly financial statements pertinent to their position. The Specialist will also record transactions by posting receipts and resolving discrepancies according to established policies and procedures in an efficient, timely and accurate manner.
Additionally, the Specialist will communicate overdue balances with customers and make arrangements to receive outstanding payments in accordance with NRBN’s policies and procedures and is also responsible for accounts payable for the organization.
What Will You be Doing?
· Utilizing computerized accounting software systems including (but not limited to) Sage 300 and/or Sage Intacct, Broadhub, Excel, SharePoint, and Smartsheet
· Assisting with process and system improvement projects and implementation to support a 5-day month end close
· Reviewing and entering a high volume of invoices from vendors with accuracy, matching to purchase orders and ensuring proper approvals as required,
· Communicating regularly with vendors to ensure invoices are received in a timely manner and gather information to support any required accruals for unbilled services and project work completed
· Preparing monthly reconciliations and journal entries for all corporate credit cards and ensuring all receipts have been received by cardholders to support the purchases
· Maintaining accurate and complete residential accounts receivable, entering monthly residential sales activity summary into and from appropriate systems and ensuring the reconciliation of balances between the systems
· Preparing monthly invoices in relevant system(s) for residential customers in accordance with customer agreements for sales or services rendered
· Conducting new and renewal contract comparisons for accurate invoice/billing entry and generation
· Providing customers with billing/invoice related communications (welcome emails, PAD/EFT approval documentation, online payment information, etc.)
· Analyzing and notifying all overdue residential customer accounts within specified contractual timeframes and initiating service suspension and collections activity as necessary
· Supporting accounts receivable and accounts payable responsibilities required for period close, including reconciliation of account balances, identification of payable invoices not received, and setting up required accruals
· Identifying discrepancies, variances, and errors; correcting, as required
· Responding to escalated residential customer inquiries with accuracy in a timely and professional manner
· Communicating overdue balances with customers, making payment arrangements as necessary, to receive outstanding payments in accordance with NRBN’s policies and procedures
· Assisting with administrative and clerical tasks for the Finance Department
· Other relevant duties or project within the scope and spirit of the position as assigned by management
Working Conditions
· Indoor office environment with occasional local vehicle travel
· Extended periods of sitting, data entry, and data comparison
· Hybrid role (if requested) with a requirement to work in-office 2 days per week
· Occasionally required to extend hours of work to meet work demands or customer requirements including evenings or weekends

What Do you Bring to the Team?
· A post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration. Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic/experience requirements.
· Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and Sage software would be an asset
· Strong ability to multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently to meet required deadlines

Special Conditions
· This position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate (‘CRC’)
· A valid G-class driver’s license and clean driving abstract is required
