Program Manager, Educational Assistants, Learning Support Services
100% Regular
Monday – Friday, 35 hours per week (12 Month Work Year)
$83,100 to $97,800 per annum (Union Exempt)
Under the general direction of the Superintendent of Learning Support Services, and reporting to the System Principal(s) of Learning Support Services (LSS), the Program Manager, Educational Assistants, is responsible for attracting, retaining and providing professional development to both central and school based Educational Assistants. Working in collaboration with Program, Learning and Innovation, as well as People, Culture and Leadership the Program Manager will be responsible for the direct and indirect supervision of program and support staff, developing program content, operational procedures and guidelines in relation to hiring and supervising Educational Assistants for evening and/or summer programs, as applicable. The Program Manager, Educational Assistants, will play an important role in liaising with community partners to build stronger relationships.
Key Responsibilities And Attributes Required
Research and review best practices and service delivery models to best support system needs and strategic priorities.
Responsible for development and coordination of annual professional development plan for all school-based and central Educational Assistants to build capacity, ensure consistency, and enhance the effectiveness of this employee group in supporting students.
Liaise with school-based and central Educational Assistants in person through classroom observation and follow up.
Managerial skills for hiring, supervising and evaluating staff; as well as demonstrating leadership for coaching, mentoring, and motivating teams; demonstrated commitment to team work and team building.
Excellent communication skills required in order to respond in writing or through verbal conversations, and demonstrated interpersonal qualities to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Oral communications for making presentations, in a large or small group setting;
Writing skills for preparing reports, complex correspondence, and communications to the system.
Organizational skills, as well as time management techniques for organizing, planning and implementing programs/projects, juggling multiple demands and working within short and conflicting deadlines.
Significant judgment for decision-making and problem resolution. Ability to solve complex problems and support staff in resolving issues that arise in emotionally challenging and charged environments.
Demonstrated commitment to and integration of human rights and equity principles.
Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and team building.
Knowledge of the role of Educational Assistants in schools and on Central Teams.
Knowledge and experience of the educational system and community services.
Knowledge of applicable software applications including Microsoft Suite and google applications in order to accomplish work of this position.
Proficient in computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, and relevant database systems used to accomplish work.
Note: access to reliable transportation when required to visit schools or administrative sites.
This knowledge would normally be acquired through a post-secondary education degree in Developmental Service Worker, Child & Youth Care program or equivalent, as well as 5 to 6 years experience as an Educational Assistant, and 1-2 years experience in a supervisory role. A combination of education and experience may also be considered.
