KGM is looking to add to their team a Director of People & Culture, to lead the way with their wholistic people strategy that emphasizes tolerance, empowerment, quality, productivity, high standards. Your critical thinking and strategic drive will provide the foundation of a robust people centric culture that aligns and moves in tandem with the organizational Mission, Vision and Values. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of People & Culture is responsible for ensuring strategic, effective, consistent, and compliance with Employment Standards and WorkSafeBC, as well as policies and practices throughout the organization. You will oversee all People & Culture functions, including employee relations; occupational health and safety; compensation and benefits; full cycle recruitment; and training and development.
The Director of People and Culture ensures that the values and beliefs of the Kelowna Gospel Mission (KGM) are reflected in the organization by developing strategies to engage employees throughout KGM and not just within their respective departments; or location, ensuring that every team member has a sense of belonging to the organization and feel committed to their work.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Directors to build and articulate the organization’s strategic people strategy
framework;
- Lead oversight of all People & Culture administrative systems and records; manage the day-to-day administration functions and
initiatives;
- Oversee and manage 4 direct reports, as well as work closely with Finance where People & Culture;
- Act as a change maker and lead the way to build awareness of; and successfully implement policies and procedures that align with
strategic and operational objectives of KGM and comply with relevant legislation and best practices;
- Interpreting labor laws/regulations such as Employment Standards, WSCB and Human Rights;
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to the organization on the recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes for new
employees;
- Monitor, maintain and provide metrics related to recruitment and retention;
- Provide strategic leadership and direction on total compensation strategies to ensure the organization attracts and retains quality
staff;
- Develop and implement performance management processes and systems that reflect organizational goals and objectives;
- Ensure all employees, volunteers, and practicum students are appropriately trained and aligned with organizational policies and
procedures;
- Support transformational activities and initiatives throughout the organization by applying change management methodologies
and utilizing a learning approach;
- Design, implement and support safe work practices in alignment with occupational health and safety legislation and policies
through the development, administration, and implementation of related programs, Occupational Health and Safety committee,
and procedures;
- Lead staff training in safe work practices, emergency response and preparedness, violence prevention, etc.;
- Foster a continuous improvement mindset across the team, leveraging HR technology to ensure optimal utilization of all resources;
- Demonstrate the capacity to adapt to a changing environment, seek opportunities to add value, navigate complexities, enable
novel approaches to team and organizational needs, and deliver operational excellence.
Requirements
- Post-Secondary Diploma, or Degree in Human Resources, with CPHR preferred;
- An equivalent combination of 5 to 7 years of recent related experience, skills and relevant education will be considered;
- Experience providing leadership and oversight in a People & Culture environment;
- Experience leading in a not-for-profit environment is not required, but considered an asset;
- Experience in developing and implementing staff training programs is required;
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead projects, oversee the People & Culture team, and work with diverse individuals to
identify issues, design solutions, and evaluate results;
- Must be goal-oriented and able to perform independently, with initiative and a strong sense of commitment, community and trust;
- Excellent organizational skills, critical thinking power, depth of knowledge and capacity to cross the finish line within tight
deadlines and targets on independent and team-based projects;
- Adept at problem solving and appropriately responding to emerging needs with tact and diplomacy;
- Advocate for and apply principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and belonging in all aspects of their work;
- Able to motivate, lead by example and empower others to reach organizational goals.
