The Department of Lands and Forestry is responsible for the development, management, conservation and protection of forest, parks and wildlife resources, and the administration of the province’s Crown land. The Shubenacadie Wildlife Park is one of Nova Scotia’s top tourist destinations and has attracted millions of visitors over the past 68 years. The 40-hectare park has enchanted Nova Scotian’s and visitors alike and provides a wide range of outdoor recreational and educational opportunities.
Under the general supervision of the Foreman Wildlife Park, or designate, the Carpenter is responsible to supervise a team of Wildlife Park Attendants in the construction and maintenance of infrastructure, equipment, grounds, enclosures and buildings, Ducks Unlimited Interpretive Centre and trail system of this 40 acre facility. The Carpenter is also responsible to assist as needed with animal care, provide information to the visiting public on facility and programs in addition to information and training sessions to other staff and volunteers.
The successful candidate will have a Carpentry Diploma (2 year) plus 2 years experience in the construction field, or Carpentry Certificate (1 year) plus 3 years experience in the construction field, or High school equivalency plus 4 years experience in the construction field.

Constantly lifting heavy objects, walking, standing, shovelling, snow removal, capturing/handling wildlife, use of hand and power equipment, dealing with difficult people, operating vehicles and ATV’s. Public’s high expectations of facility, personal safety and services received can be very demanding. The necessity to complete tasks outside of scheduled hours in order to ensure the well being of wildlife, visitors and facility.
Regularly working under conditions of dust, moisture, chemical cleaning substances, grease/oil/gas, extreme temperatures and conditions, odours, noise, power equipment and extended hours. Occasional exposure to human and animal waste, zoonosis, injuries from animals, unprocessed animal feeds, drugs and contaminated needles.

The Successful Candidate will need to provide a clear NS Child Abuse Register and Criminal Check.
Pay Grade: MOS 14
Salary Range: $1,899.77 – $1,959.88 Bi-Weekly
