RCIScience is seeking a talented and successful Marketing and Communications Manager to join our small team and drive initiatives that will grow our brand’s online presence and engage with our target audience effectively.
Job Summary
As the Marketing and Communications Manager, you will be responsible for developing and executing digital marketing strategies and communication plans to enhance the charity’s online visibility, engage our audience, and drive business growth. You will oversee various digital marketing channels, including social media, email marketing, content marketing, and SEO, while also guiding the overall communications strategy to ensure a consistent and compelling brand message. You are comfortable working independently and taking initiative but can also collaborate with our small team of staff and volunteers as needed. You keep a pulse on industry trends and are eager to grow your skill set and learn new things.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Marketing & Communications:
- With the Brand & Communications Committee Chair, conduct a communications audit and develop and execute comprehensive digital marketing and communications strategies that align with the charity’s renewed strategic goals and target audiences;
- Collaborate with the Brand and Communications Committee to define key messages and communication priorities;
- Monitor industry trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities for growth and improvement;
- With the Programs Manager, create, curate and manage engaging content for social media platforms that align with the Marketing & Communications strategy (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn);
- Monitor and analyze social media metrics to measure the success of campaigns and make data-driven improvements;
- Oversee the website’s content strategy, optimizing content for SEO to improve organic search rankings;
- Manage and allocate the digital marketing budget effectively, including paid advertising campaigns (e.g. Google Ads) to drive targeted traffic and conversions;
- Regularly track and analyze digital marketing performance and communication efforts using metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs); preparing reports to senior management and providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
Email Marketing:
- With input from the Executive Director, Programs Manager and Philanthropic Advisor, develop and manage email marketing campaigns, including content creation, list segmentation, and automation;
- A/B test email campaigns to optimize open rates, click-through rates, and conversion rates;
- Ensure compliance with email marketing regulations (e.g., CASL).
Media & Public Relations:
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to build brand awareness and credibility;
- Write and distribute press releases and media pitches;
- With the Brand & Communications Committee, support crisis communications and handle reputation management issues effectively.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field, or proven success in digital marketing, communications, or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of digital marketing channels, strategies, and best practices.
- Proficiency in marketing tools and software (e.g., Google Analytics, SEO tools, email marketing platforms).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
- Creative thinker with the ability to develop engaging content.
- Demonstrated experience in media relations and crisis communication.
- Proficiency in using communication tools and software.
- Proficiency using Canva, Buffer, SquareSpace and Google suite, amongst other tools.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Interest or experience working in scientific sectors.
