Position: Manager of Corporate and Special Events
Location: Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada
Job Purpose: Reporting to the General Manager the incumbent will be responsible for managing the Events department and displaying the leadership and execution to build on the success and continue to deliver first rate corporate and special events. As an integral part of the senior management team, the Manager directs the overall development and delivery of all Special Events and Event programs to achieve our corporate objectives.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Build on the success of our programs and events and continue to grow the business and improve the experience. This includes, but not limited to, birthdays, business meetings, corporate buy-outs and special events.
2. Produce and deliver all special event programs within the Aquarium and offsite at remote locations.
3. Develop and deliver new programs and experiences to continue the success of Ripley Aquarium hosted events and programs.
4. Work with third party caters and suppliers with the goal to continue to improve and upgrade experiences delivered.
5. Responsible for the development and management of the departmental budget including labour and operating expenses. Overall objective to increase revenues and extend the normal operating calendar.
6. Provide a monthly variance report
7. Recruitment, training and development of all Event full-time and part-time staff.
8. Scheduling of all staff, including External contractors, to ensure proper coverage to operate all events, programs and bookings.
9. Procure all necessary event resources to support programs, events and external rentals/bookings including but not limited to the following: catering, décor, audio and visual equipment, furniture and staffing & beverages.
10. Create design and oversee the installation of all necessary holiday décor including but not limited to Christmas, Halloween and New Years Eve.
11. Continually monitor and upgrade Special Event programs and sales collateral to solicit and sell events.
12. Responsible for soliciting new business and event booking sales by meeting with external clients and growing partnerships.
13. Communicate all event requirements to appropriate departments internally.
14. Work with the Conservation team to develop and oversee environmental event initiatives to ensure that all special events and programs have a focus of conservation.
15. Oversee the day to day operations of the Events department.
16. Ensure all staff and programs are dedicated to quality and guest satisfaction.
17. Represent Ripley Entertainment and Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada as required at community forums, special events and industry functions.
18. Review licensing to ensure it is updated and maintained in a safe and clean working order for overall guest safety and satisfaction.
19. Spot improvable areas of the operation and familiarize yourself with AGCO, Event Insurance, SOCAN, etc.
20. All other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Post-Secondary degree in Event Management and/or equivalent experience.
Minimum five (5) years developing and managing Corporate Events or Special Events Programming.
Experience with Venue Management including management of departmental invoicing an asset.
Proven skills and abilities in the following areas: program development, sales, customer service, financial analysis, problem solving, organization, budgets, training and development.
Experience with Sakes CRM system preferred/asset
Experience with Microsoft Office required.
Proven ability to problem-solve.
Adaptable to flexible work schedule and must be able to work weekends, evenings, overnight event set ups and holidays.
Must have a valid G license.
Must have smart serve training.
Must be highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
