Robert Half is seeking a contract Health and Safety Coordinator today! Our client is a leading mining company dedicated to the exploration and production of valuable minerals while prioritizing the health and safety of our workforce. To support their ongoing efforts, we are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Health and Safety Coordinator to join their team on a contract basis in the Vancouver, BC area.
Position Overview:
As a Health and Safety Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the implementation and maintenance of effective health and safety practices throughout their mining operations. Working closely with their Health and Safety Manager, you will be responsible for developing and executing safety programs, conducting regular inspections, providing training, and fostering a safety-first culture among our employees and contractors.
Responsibilities:
– Collaborate with the Health and Safety Manager to develop and update health and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines in accordance with industry regulations and best practices.
– Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
– Coordinate and deliver safety training sessions to employees and contractors, ensuring they are well-informed about safety protocols and procedures.
– Investigate incidents and accidents, analyzing root causes, and preparing detailed reports to prevent future occurrences.
– Maintain accurate records of safety-related data, including incident reports, training documentation, and safety meeting minutes.
– Assist in emergency response planning and drills to ensure preparedness for potential emergencies.
– Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a safety culture, encouraging the active participation of all employees in maintaining a safe work environment.
– A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant health and safety experience in the mining industry is preferred.
– A degree or diploma in occupational health and safety or a related field is preferred.
– Knowledge of local and federal safety regulations and standards applicable to the mining industry.
– Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
– Excellent communication and presentation skills to deliver effective safety training.
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities effectively.
– Proficiency in using safety management software and Microsoft Office applications.
– Relevant certifications such as OSHA, MSHA, or similar are an asset.
