We are seeking an talented Payroll Analyst for contract to hire opportunity. In this role, qualified Payroll Analyst will be tasked with processing payroll & using analytical skills for payroll accounting, pension & benefits administration. This role is a remote opportunity available to candidates that are located in the Greater Toronto Area.
KEY ROLE
Reporting to the Finance Manager the Payroll Analyst is responsible for the timely
and accurate processing of semi-monthly payroll, payroll related financial reporting, benefits
and retirement savings plan reporting and related remittances.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage and process a multi-province (incl. and Quebec) semi-payroll for salaried and
hourly employees within time frames specified by the payroll service provider;
• Calculate and enter all semi-monthly payroll adjustments as required and ensure
adjustments and changes are allocated to the correct time period for employment
insurance reporting purposes;
• Capture and balance required taxable benefit values related to group benefits, Wellness
and other benefit programs;
• Process and manage all employee garnishments;
• Ensure ROE and termination information is processed accurately and within specified
legislated timeframes;
• Review, reconcile and issue year-end tax forms for employees – T4, T4A, T2200, TP-64.3;
• Complete all year-end reporting and tax filings with appropriate government agencies
(including Quebec);
• Audit, reconcile and align payroll, benefits and expense data records;
• Resolve remittance and/or filing discrepancies with appropriate government bodies.
Reconcile pension payments and contributions, provide information required to 3rd party
consultants for T737 forms, and prepare letters to Receiver General and third party
vendors;
• Respond to emails and payroll related inquiries from employees, management and
external contacts;
• Advise on legislated issues, calculations of benefits and payroll related issues;
• Draft key messages for internal pay communications;
• Maintains filing and other administrative duties for finance and payroll related activities.
• Prepare and post semi-monthly payroll journal entries into Great Plains and ensure that
all payroll general ledger accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis;
• Review payroll year-end reports and reconcile to the payroll register and Revenue Canada
assessments;
• Filing and balancing payroll earnings reports with appropriate back-up for reconciliation
on a monthly basis;
• Prepare and submit monthly journal entries for bonus and RCA pension accruals;
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree/College Diploma and/or equivalent related work experience
· PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or working towards this is considered an asset.
· 4+ years’ related work experience.
· Experience with Excel and reporting.
· Comfortability dealing with 3rd party providers (benefits, EAP, etc)
· Familiarity with benefit plans and able to administer multi-divisional plans.
· Experience with ADP Workforcenow is considered an asset.
· Extremely high attention to detail.
· High level of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
